After picking up three wickets that was instrumental in Bengal folding for 220 in their first dig, Subodh Bhati decided to blast the Bengal bowling and smashed a quickfire 62 off 53 that pushed Delhi to 301 in their second dig on the penultimate day of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19 Round 8 Elite B match on Tuesday. At stumps, Bengal were 18/0, requiring another 304 runs to get on the final day.
Resuming their day at 41/2, ahead by 61 runs, Delhi kept lost Kunal Chandela to Pradipta Pramanik for 25, while captain Nitish Rana was trapped leg-before by Ashok Dinda for 17. Himmat Singh and Jonty Sidhu, first innings’ half-centurion, then steadied the innings with a 85-run partnership. Just after reaching his fifth first-class fifty, Himmat was dismissed by Mukesh Kumar for 51. Sidhu followed his team-mate few overs later after adding 42 runs.
Bhati then took the Bengal bowling attack to the cleaners clobbering them all around the Eden Gardens. He smashed five boundaries and six sixes during his blazing knock that saw Delhi set Bengal a stiff target of 322 runs.
For Bengal, Dinda was the pick of the bowlers with a five-wicket haul, adding to his four in the first essay. He went for 88 runs in his 30 overs.
