After bowling out Jammu and Kashmir for 161, Haryana found themselves half their side down for 129 at stumps, still trailing by 32 runs on the opening day of their Elite C group Round 6 of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season on Friday.
Put into bat on the notorious Lahli pitch, Haryana, who were boosted with India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, struck first blood in the seventh over with Ajit Chahal removing Shubham Khajuria for 7. Ahmad Omar Banday followed his partner in the next over after he was dismissed by Ashish Hooda.

Yuzvendra opened his account sending Ian Chauhan for 23 before accounted for the wickets of the dangerous J&K captain Parvez Rasool (16) and India allrounder Irfan Pathan (18). Ajit Chahal then ran through the middle order picking two quick wickets of Obaid Haroon (26) and Mohammad Mudhasir (2).
Hooda then wrapped up the innings after he cleaned up Akash Choudhary for 18. For Haryana, Yuzvendra and Ajit picked three wickets.

In reply, Haryana were off to a good start with openers Himanshu Rana and Ankit Kumar conjuring 46 runs before Umar Nazir decimated the batting order. He first had Ankit caught by Chauhan for 27 in the 13th over and four overs later trapped Rana for 29. In his next spell, Nazir saw the back of CK Bishnoi, who scored 20 and four overs later, trapped RP Sharma leg-before for 41.
On the brink of stumps, Mudhasir cleaned up Pramod Chandila for just four to leave Haryana reeling at 129/5. Nazir emerged with figures of 4/43, his best bowling figures in a first-class innings, improving on his previous best of 4/49.
