Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) slammed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a margin of 45 runs in their opening clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 tournament. The game was played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and was a home game for the Virat Kohli-led side. It was Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all the way as they posted a total in excess of 200 plus, which is the first such occurrence in this IPL. In their reply, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) failed to make a positive start, losing their inconsistent opener Shikhar Dhawan early on, and then failing to launch a counter-attack. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain David Warner was the only batsman who made a significant contribution, scoring a quickfire 58 in their chase. Except for skipper David Warner’s spirited 58 off 25 balls with four fours and five sixes and Ashish Reddy’s 32, all other Sunrisers faltered before the RCB attack, with Shane Watson (2/30) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2/43) most successful bowlers for the hosts. The Sunrisers’ failure to maintain the run rate led to a situation that they needed 64 runs in the last 12 balls and 55 runs in the last over.
