Former Mumbai and India cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar, was all praise for Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) historic win over 40 time champions — Mumbai. He also stressed that they shouldn’t deviate from the job at hand. The legend, spent time with the team to encourage them and share in their joys
According to NDTV Sports, he signed bats and posed for photographs with members of the J&K Ranji team and told them “You should not get carried away. You should keep the momentum. It’s a great victory and a big achievement.”
What made the win more special for J&K was that it came in Mumbai’s home ground; The Wankhede stadium. It was also J&K’s maiden outing against Mumbai in the 80 years of the tournament’s history. Mumbai, however, were bereft of two of their star batsmen — Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma as they’re with the Indian team on the tour to Australia.
So far, Parvez Rasool happens to be the only Kashmiri cricketer to have won an Indian cap, but that could begin to change after this historic win. If player like Ram Dayal, who ripped through the Mumbai batting line up in the first innings and batsman Shubam Khajuria, who got a century and a half century, can keep up the momentum, the selectors will surely be impressed.
Tendulkar is the most popular batsman to have emerged from Mumbai. He retired from a remarkable international career in November last year and called time on his domestic career for Mumbai only a few weeks before his farewell test series, scoring a masterful half century to guide Mumbai to a victory over Haryana, in Lahli.
