Steven Smith completed 6,000 runs in the format during the fifth Ashes Test. Smith took 111 innings to the landmark, equalling Garry Sobers’ record. Scoring as many runs in 68 innings, Don Bradman obviously aces the list. Smith also became the youngest Australian to the mark, surpassing Ricky Ponting (125 innings) who had taken 8 years and 107 days.

Smith has scored 6,000 runs (at the time of publishing this report) at 63.8, including 23 hundreds and 22 fifties. His last 21 hundreds, in fact, have come in since 2014, that is, 5.25 hundreds per year.

Smith was the highest run-scorer in Tests in 2017, churning out 1,305 runs at 76.76. That was the fourth consecutive time that Smith collected a thousand runs in a calendar year, surpassing Brian Lara and Kevin Pietersen. Having achieved it five times, Matthew Hayden tops the list.

Smith made his debut as a leg-spinner for Australia in 2010. However, his over-growing interesting for batting placed him in a different department in the playing XI. His maiden century came against England in 2013 at The Oval. His second hundred came in four months, and he has been unstoppable since.
