Veteran Sri Lanka allrounder Thisara Perera on Sunday joined Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) side Comilla Victorians and will play the remaining matches of the ongoing league.

Victorians suffered a major blow when Australia star Steve Smith, their captain, flew back home to attend to his injured elbow. Smith, serving suspension for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Perera, who last played for Rangpur Riders in their 2017 title-winning campaign, returns with truckloads of runs under his belt. In the three ODIs in New Zealand, the southpaw scored 4, 140 and 80 respectively and claimed two wickets. (ALSO READ: New Zealand survive Thisara Perera blitz to seal series 2-0)

Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes had led the side for their last match against Rajshahi Kings. Victorians will next play Chittagong Vikings at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday.
