Ravichandran Ashwin will feature in the last two matches for Worcestershire in the 2018 County Championship. The Indian spinner has been re-signed by the county team for matches against Essex at Chelmsford and Yorkshire at Blackfinch New Road. He will be replacing Wayne Parnell as the County’s overseas player and join the team post India‘s Test series against England.
Ashwin impressed everyone with his performance in last season after being signed for the final four Championship matches. He scalped 20 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls and played a vital part with the bat averaging 42. It is also learnt that he cherished the dressing room getting along with the players. End of the season he even quoted “love to come back” and the dressing room memories are “one I will cherish forever”.
The club has been waiting for months to re-sign Ashwin as they awaited confirmation from BCCI. Talking on this, County CEO Matt Rawnsley applauded Ashwin for his performance in the last season.
“We are delighted to have Ashwin coming back for what could be a key part of the season. He is one of the best spinners in world cricket and the influence he had when here last season cannot be underestimated. The lads all speak so highly of him, the impact he had on the field and the way he slotted in so well off the pitch and he was willing to offer advice to our young spinners like Ben Twohig,” said Rawnsley.
India’s Test series against England is scheduled to begin from August 1. India will play a four-day warm-up match against Essex from 25 July ahead of the Test series.
