Lahiru Thirimanneb Nathan Lyon 56 69 7 0 81.16
24.6
N Lyon to L Thirimanne, OUT! TIMBER! Another batsman who looks to play for the turn departs! Lovely delivery from Lyon. He pushes this one quicker, at 91 KPH. It lands on off and then skids through. Thirimanne ends up playing outside the line, he also leaves a gap between bat and pad. The ball sneaks through and hits the off pole. Once again Australia manage to strike at the right time. The partnership just started to get going.
Dimuth Karunaratne (C)c Alex Carey b Kane Richardson 16 36 1 0 44.44
9.5
K Richardson to D Karunaratne, OUT! There is something on Ultra Edge and the on-field call has to be overturned. That is why the Australians were so confident. Richardson draws first blood and breaks the opening stand just as the runs started to come for Lanka. He bowls it short and it is angling away from the batsman. Karunaratne looks to pull but takes his eyes off the ball. It goes to Carey who takes it and appeals. The umpire shakes his head though. Australia review. Replays roll in and they show there is a top edge. Excellent review!
Kusal Perera (W)lbw b Glenn Maxwell 12 19 1 0 63.16
16.2
G Maxwell to K Perera, OUT! LBW! Maxwell strikes. The dangerous Perera does not make the life he got, count. The arm ball does the trick. It is flatter and it skids on after pitching on off. Perera lunges and looks to defend but does so for the turn. There is no spin whatsoever and Perera is hit on the front pad. An appeal, a long one and the umpire finally raises the finger. Perera walks upto his partner and has a chat but then keeps on walking. Another budding partnership comes to an end. It was a good decision not to review as replay later on show that it was plumb in front.
Kusal Mendisc Nathan Lyon b Adam Zampa 24 33 2 0 72.73
27.1
A Zampa to K Mendis, OUT! Excellent catch from Nathan Lyon in the deep. Not the best of deliveries from Zampa. He bowls a very low full toss on off, Kusal Mendis looks to sweep it over deep mid-wicket. He gets no timing on it but for a moment it looks to be falling short but Lyon dives in front and takes a brilliant catch just over the ground.
Angelo Mathewsc & b Steven Smith 17 21 2 0 80.95
33.4
S Smith to A Mathews, OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Smith gets the big fish! Mathews will be very disappointed with himself. He is the last bowler in this Australian team he would have wanted to get out to. This is extremely full on middle, bounces just before the bat. Mathews looks to drive it but it goes uppishly to the left of the bowler who takes a good catch diving to his left. Half the side back in the hut for Sri Lanka. They slip further.
Jeevan Mendislbw b Adam Zampa 21 36 1 0 58.33
37.5
A Zampa to J Mendis, OUT! Another one bites the dust! Zampa gets his second. Mendis looks to sweep but misses. He is hit right in front. An appeal and the umpire raises the finger. Jeevan walks back after getting off to a start.
Dhananjaya de Silvab Mitchell Starc 43 41 4 0 104.88
48.4
M Starc to de Silva, OUT! BOWLED 'EM! You miss, I hit stuff. Starc keeps it full and attacks the stumps. Dhananjaya looks to go over the off side by making room but misses to see the ball hit the leg pole. A good innings though from him. He provided the much-needed impetus to the Lankan innings but they needed him to stay out there till the end.
Thisara Pererac Glenn Maxwell b Pat Cummins 27 33 1 0 81.82
47.1
Pat Cummins to T Perera, OUT! Perera holes out! Cummins strikes on the first ball of his new spell. Bowls it short and on the body of Perera. He goes for the pull but since it was the longer part of the ground, he needed to get a lot behind it. Does not do so and it is an easy catch for Maxwell at deep mid-wicket. A good partnership for the Lankans comes to an end but they needed this to continue.

Australia

Batting R B 4s 6s SR
Aaron Finch (C)lbw b Nuwan Pradeep 11 16 2 0 68.75
3.6
N Pradeep to A Finch, OUT! No inside edge and Finch is a goner as Hawk Eye shows three reds. Sri Lanka have got the early breakthrough they needed. The Aussie skipper fails to make an impact again. The inswinging delivery once again is what brings about his downfall. It lands on middle and jags back in. Finch looks to defend but misses due to the inward movement. The ball hits him on the front pad. An appeal but the umpire shakes his head. The Lankans signal the 'T'. Replays roll in and they show that the on-field call has to be overturned.
Usman Khawajast Kusal Perera b Jeffrey Vandersay 89 105 3 0 84.76
40.2
J Vandersay to U Khawaja, OUT! Khawaja's foot is on the line and he has been given his marching orders. However, the opener has done his job, he has taken Australia to the brink of victory. He though will be disappointed he could not get to his ton. Vandersay bowls the googly on off, Khawaja defends inside the line and gets beaten. The keeper whips the bails off and appeals. The umpire takes it upstairs. Replays roll in and they show that the bails were dislodged but the LED lights lit up late. However, Khawaja still could not drag his foot in. OUT flashes on the big screen.
Shaun Marshc Milinda Siriwardana b Dhananjaya de Silva 34 46 3 0 73.91
19.3
de Silva to S Marsh, OUT! Marsh throws the start he got away! A much-needed wicket for Lanka. Marsh comes down the track but does not get to the pitch of the ball. He still goes ahead with the shot and holes out to the man at long on. Siriwardana takes it easily. Sri Lanka need a couple more quickly. Australia need another 144 runs in 183 balls.
Glenn Maxwellc Lahiru Thirimanne b Milinda Siriwardana 36 36 4 0 100
29.6
M Siriwardana to G Maxwell, OUT! Maxwell's scratchy innings comes to an end! He just could not time the ball today and this dismissal shows how much he struggled. It was a nothing ball, it was short and Maxwell could have hit it anywhere. He goes back and looks to pull but it goes off the bottom part towards deep mid-wicket where Siriwardana takes a good catch coming forward and inches above the ground. This partnership however, has done its job. Australia need 79 more.
Marcus Stoinisc sub b Jeffrey Vandersay 32 30 2 1 106.67
36.4
J Vandersay to M Stoinis, OUT! Straight to the man! Stoinis falls now! It is short and on middle, MS goes back and pulls it hard but straight to the man at deep mid-wicket. He makes no mistake. However, this wicket is probably a little too late. Australia only need another 37.
