1.4
Rabada to Imam, OUT! It is out, it is out, it is dead! Ohhh dear... playing with the line... what were the batsmen thinking? Pitching outside leg, umpire's call? It was close to the naked eye but Pakistan have lost a wicket and a review. Ouch. Superb bowling from Rabada. He is the first to strike. Keeps it very full, around leg and gets it to straighten. Imam plays all around it, looking to flick and misses. FLUSH. On the pads. Huge appeal. Oxenford thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks and eventually, raises the slow death! Now, the two openers get together for a chat and decide to go upstairs. Nothing for them. Pitched in line. Hit in line. Going on to crash into the timber. Better luck in the second innings.
Fakhar Zamanc Dean Elgar b Dale Steyn 12 17 2 0 70.59
6.1
D Steyn to Zaman, OUT! Edged and taken! FRAME THIS, SAFFAS. Wicket number 422 by a Protea in Tests - FAKHAR ZAMAN - CAUGHT ELGAR, BOWLED STEYN. He has it. The record is his. What a bowler. Champion stuff. He is being lifted on shoulders to celebrate and the crowd is going ga-ga. Has not been at his best so far but he has got the record on his 19th ball of the day. Perfect line and length in this case. Full and just around off, hint of away swing, Zaman feels for it without moving his feet. Gets a thick outside edge which flies straight to Dean Elgar at third slip. The fielder and bowler run in opposite directions. Elgar runs to his left, signalling to someone in the dressing room, while Steyn too, runs to his left in his follow-through. Eventually, all the 11 players get together and are mobbing Steyn. Picture this. Who is in the commentary box? Shaun Pollock himself, who held the record so far! Ohh... by the way, Pakistan are 2 down.
Shan Masoodb Duanne Olivier 19 34 2 0 55.88
15.2
D Olivier to Masood, OUT! BOWLED! Unlucky for the batsman. A short ball, around the hips, Masood looks to tuck it away but the ball bounces extra. Hits his hip, lobs up, then hits his glove and the bat handle and then deflects onto the stumps! So, so unlucky. But Olivier will take it. Akll the three bowlers are amongst the wickets now. The 37-run stand has been broken.
Azhar Alic Theunis de Bruyn b Duanne Olivier 36 69 7 0 52.17
28.1
D Olivier to A Ali, OUT! It is a bird! It is a plane! It is SUPER-BRUYN! Spectacular effort. What a ball and WHAT-A-CATCH. Azhar Ali is out of here. But nothing much he could have done there. Brute of a ball, pitched on the shorter side outside off. To be extremely critical, Azhar could have left it alone. But easier said than done. He is already committed to go onto the front foot and cannot do anything. He is in the air as the ball shoots up suddenly. Ali tries to fend it off but the ball goes off the bat-face and lobs wide of third slip. For a second, it seems like the cherry will land safely. But Theunis de Bruyn at third slip reacts swiftly, rushes to his right, keeps his eyes on the ball and dives full length to take a one-handed stunner! Poor Azhar Ali cannot believe his luck. Neither can Pakistan. Olivier has his third.
Asad Shafiqlbw b Duanne Olivier 7 12 1 0 58.33
17.5
Olivier to Shafiq, OUT! LBW! The decision stays as it is! Umpire's call! The thin line of judgement. The ball is shown to be clipping the bails. Had this been given not out and South Africa reviewed it, the decision would have stood as not out. But there is always that four-letter word in this case - L-U-C-K. Pakistan do not seem to have it at the moment. First Masood. Now Shafiq. Only good thing for them is that they do not lose a review, that's all. A lovely delivery outside off, Shafiq looked to defend what looked like pitched on a good length. But was beaten as the ball seamed in prodigiously. Was pinged on his pads and Olivier roared in an appeal. Umpire Oxenford thought for a while and then raised his dreaded finger. Now, now, now. If only he had given it not out. That is what Shafiq would have been thinking. He chats with Azhar and then refers it upstairs. Hawk Eye shows impact in line, hitting in line and the ball bouncing over - but just enough to clip the bails. Olivier now has two.
Babar Azamc Faf du Plessis b Kagiso Rabada 71 79 15 0 89.87
45.3
K Rabada to B Azam, OUT! Babar is caught brilliantly at second slip! Rabada returns and does the job. He hurls a length ball just outside off and gets it to nip back in just a shade. Babar is stuck inside the crease as he presents a straight bat in defense. But the ball doesn't move back in enough and takes the outside edge. Faf du Plessis dives across to his left and grabs the catch safely. End of a handy 67-run partnership for Pakistan and an outstanding knock by Babar.
Sarfraz Ahmed (C)(W)b Duanne Olivier 0 4 0 0 0
28.5
D Olivier to Ahmed, OUT! Chopped on! Well, one brings two and all of a sudden, the Proteas are right back in this. Not that they were out of it any which ways - but now they have opened the doorway to a quick finish to this innings. A length ball outside off, Sarfraz is not sure whether to play at it or leave. The indecision costs him and the result is an under edge. Cannons into the stumps. A 4-ball duck for the skipper.
Mohammad Amirb Duanne Olivier 1 15 0 0 6.67
32.5
D Olivier to Amir, OUT! BOWLED! MAIDEN TEST 5-FER FOR DUANNE OLIVIER! Well, well, well. The Proteas are more elated than the bowler himself. Another lovely nut. This is pitched on a length around leg stump and Amir, not surprisingly, hangs back to defend, aiming to cover the line around leg and middle. But the ball hits the deck and then seams away to beat the outside edge and hits the off stump!
Yasir Shahlbw b Kagiso Rabada 4 10 1 0 40
35.5
K Rabada to Shah, OUT! IT IS UMPIRE'S CALL! Oh dear... oh dear o dear... Yasir will feel unlucky as well. Full and straight, Shah plays all around it and misses it totally. The ball staying low does not help his cause either and he is pinged right in front. Umpire Oxenford thinks for a while and then raises his finger! Yasir takes the review and to the naked eye, it seems like missing leg. However, Hawk Eye shows it to be clipping leg and the decision stays!
Hasan Alinot out 21 28 2 1 75
Shaheen Afridic Quinton de Kock b Duanne Olivier 0 5 0 0 0
46.6
D Olivier to Afridi, OUT! It's a 6-wicket haul for Duanne Olivier! A strange review to be honest. It has cleanly taken the wood and the batsman would have known that. Short delivery angling away from Shaheen who just sticks back and tries to withdraw his bat at the last moment. But it flies off something to the keeper who collects and appeals. The finger has gone up and Afridi takes the DRS. Ultra Edge puts everything to rest and Pakistan are bowled out for 181!

Aiden Markramlbw b Hasan Ali 12 19 3 0 63.16
5.6
H Ali to Markram, OUT! Aiden Markram is a sitting duck! Hasan Ali strikes and lets out his trademark celebration. He serves it on a length outside off and gets it to nip back in sharply. Markram tries to defend it by getting forward but his bat comes down a wee bit late. The ball hurries onto him to strike him on the pads, they appeal and the finger goes up after a while. Aiden has a chat with his partner regarding the DRS and then is seen going off the park. If not an inside edge, he looked dead in front. The replays confirm the same and Pakistan taste first success.
Dean Elgarc Azhar Ali b Shaheen Afridi 22 50 5 0 44
14.5
S Afridi to Elgar, OUT! This is a big setback for South Africa! Afridi strikes and is sprinting in joy. Superb delivery by the young man. He kept bowling in the corridor of uncertainty and Elgar also kept leaving those. But this time it came back in off the seam and Elgar wasn't expecting that. He is caught inside the crease and tries to withdraw his bat after watching it curve into him. But he is late in doing so and gets a fat outside edge to Azhar Ali at first slip. He makes no mistake and number 3 goes down for South Africa.
Hashim Amlac Babar Azam b Mohammad Amir 8 16 1 0 50
13.2
M Amir to H Amla, OUT! Amla is caught at gully and Amir is delighted. This poor guy has seen so many catches put down off his bowling since making a comeback in international cricket. The joy on his face tells you that story. Amir probes around with a back of a length delivery around middle and off. The angle takes it away from the batsman and Amla stays inside the crease in his attempt to work it on the leg side. But he closes the face of the bat a shade late and as a result it catches the outside edge. A safe catch taken by Babar Azam and Amla's poor form continues...
Theunis de Bruync Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Amir 29 71 3 1 40.85
32.5
M Amir to Bruyn, OUT! Caught behind! Amir strikes at the fag end of the day. Wicket number 15 of the match and we are not even done with Day 1 yet. Should I play? Should I leave? That indecision has cost de Bruyn his wicket and he now has to leave the park. Fuller length outside off, angling away, Theunis is not sure what to do regarding playing the ball. Tries to leave after going for it initially but is too late. The ball takes a thin outside edge and Sarfraz does the rest behind, diving to his right. Amir gives his trademark send-off to de Bruyn, charging and screaming at his face but the batsman is not even interested to look at him. The 69-run stand is broken, the highest one of this match so far. South Africa still trail by 69 runs and Pakistan still in shout of a one-inning shootout.
Faf du Plessis (C)c Babar Azam b Shaheen Afridi 0 1 0 0 0
14.6
S Afridi to du Plessis, OUT! Body blow to the home team as the skipper bags a golden duck! This is extraordinary bowling by Shaheen. The line ain't that great from him, it's pitching outside leg but the movement off the surface is taking it towards the off stump. Faf du Plessis doesn't account for that and just tries to work it on the leg side. But the ball jumps onto his bat, takes the outside edge and Babar Azam grabs his second catch at gully. The home side is reeling now and Pakistan are on top. Shaheen is on a hat-trick but he will have to wait for the next over.
Temba Bavumac Sarfraz Ahmed b Shaheen Afridi 53 87 9 0 60.92
47.6
S Afridi to Bavuma, OUT! Caught behind! That's the end of Temba Bavuma. A big wicket as far as Pakistan are concerned. Afridi does the simple thing there. He just puts it on a length around middle and off and takes it away with the angle. Temba feels for it inside the line and gets a feather behind to Sarfraz. The little man walks back but not before making a big difference. The deficit is brought down to 11 and it's mainly due to his contribution. This match is tantalizingly poised, both teams can't blink.
Dale Steync Sarfraz Ahmed b Mohammad Amir 23 23 4 0 100
40.1
M Amir to Steyn, OUT! Finally a wicket for Pakistan this morning. Steyn departs but not before playing a valuable knock. Amir hurls in a good length delivery around middle and gets it to angle away from the batsman. Steyn throws his bat at it with his feet glued to the crease and gets a fat outside edge behind to the keeper. Sarfraz takes it safely and the 34-run stand is broken. South Africa trail by 35 runs.
Quinton de Kock (W)c Fakhar Zaman b Mohammad Amir 45 53 5 0 84.91
59.6
M Amir to Kock, OUT! De Kock is the last batsman to depart! He wanted to pick a single and that's why was trying to play a gentle flick shot by walking forward. But it's another slower one by Amir, bowled at 116 kph, and it catches the leading part of Quinton's bat. It goes straight into the hands of Fakhar Zaman at covers who accepts it with both hands. SOUTH AFRICA ARE ALL OUT FOR 223!
Keshav Maharajlbw b Hasan Ali 4 15 0 0 26.67
52.3
Ali to Maharaj, OUT! What a review by Pakistan! Sarfraz quickly took the DRS and is rewarded. Coming to the delivery, Hasan gets a length ball to nip back into the batsman from around off. Keshav fails to defend it due to the movement and is rapped on the front pad. They appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Sarfraz is quick to refer it. The replays roll in and they show that the impact is in line and it's hitting the leg stump. Maharaj departs.
Kagiso Rabadac Asad Shafiq b Shaheen Afridi 19 25 4 0 76
58.3
S Afridi to K Rabada, OUT! Edged and gone! A fine knock by Kagiso Rabada is over. Afridi gets a 4-fer. He serves it on a length outside off, Rabada spots the opportunity to spank it through covers but it moves away a shade to take the outside edge. It flies straight into the hands of Asad Shafiq at second slip. A handy 31-run stand comes to an end and it has taken the lead to 39.

Imam-ul-Haqb Duanne Olivier 57 96 8 1 59.38
28.5
D Olivier to Imam, OUT! Drags it on! Look at the reaction of Olivier, he is screaming in joy. Commentator's curse, have to say. Ramiz Raja has done it again on air. He expected a century from Imam but he departs soon after. Extra bounce has brought Imam's downfall. Olivier serves it in the line of the stumps and the southpaw is inside the crease trying to defend. But it takes the inside edge and goes onto the stumps. Probably in two minds, whether to play it with a straight bat or an angled one. A fine knock nonetheless by him but Pakistan needed their set batsman to continue. Lead - 59 runs.
Fakhar Zamanc Kagiso Rabada b Duanne Olivier 12 38 2 0 31.58
12.6
D Olivier to Zaman, OUT! Zaman was itching to dominate the bowler but instead gets dominated. First wicket for Olivier to add to his six in the first innings. He angles in a length ball down the leg side, Zaman picks it off his pads and tries to whip it over square leg. Doesn't bother to keep it down but has not timed it well enough. The placement though is quite accurate as far as South Africa are concerned. Kagiso Rabada only has to move across a bit to his right from fine leg to complete the catch. Pakistan are 2/1!
Shan Masoodc Keshav Maharaj b Dale Steyn 65 120 7 1 54.17
54.2
D Steyn to Masood, OUT! Caught! Sometimes your strength can become your weakness. In this case, pull was the strong point for Shan Masood. He has been consumed by the same though. Dale Steyn smiles. He does not roar. He knows this is a set up. It is dug in short and Masood instinctively goes for the pull. But unlike the previous occasions, this time, he hits it straight to Keshav Maharaj at deep mid-wicket. A fine innings from Shan Masood ends. 65 from 120 balls. How crucial would it turn out to be? Pakistan are effectively 143/9. They have got something to bowl at. Also, this is the 50th Test wicket for Steyn against Pakistan.
Azhar Alic Kagiso Rabada b Duanne Olivier 0 3 0 0 0
30.2
D Olivier to Ali, OUT! Azhar Ali has been bounced out! One more wicket to Olivier's name. Things have started to happen for South Africa post Tea. Duanne delivers his favourite short ball, nicely-directed at the batsman. Once again the batter is in two minds. Initially it appears that Ali wanted to leave it but then decides to go through with his pull shot. Gets into a very awkward position and as a result doesn't get it right. The top edge flies in the air and Rabada sprints forward from mid on to take a fine tumbling catch. South Africa smelling blood.
Asad Shafiqc Quinton de Kock b Dale Steyn 6 20 0 0 30
38.6
D Steyn to Shafiq, OUT! Caught behind! Shafiq cannot stay there for long after the LBW reprieve! Hmmm... this is what pace can do. Combine that with reverse swing. Add the cracks and the inconsistent bounce on the pitch. Mind games. False shot. Wicket. Boom. Steyn strikes. The reverse swing induced on the previous ball probably confused Shafiq a touch. Will this one tail in? Will it go away? And normally, a ball bowled at 140ks does not help you either. This is a short ball outside off and Asad could have left it alone or used his feet to play it. Does neither. Goes to punch flat-footed and only gets an outside edge behind. No need to review those. Pakistan are effectively 92/4!
Babar Azamb Kagiso Rabada 6 24 1 0 25
44.6
K Rabada to Azam, OUT! Knocked him over! Ohh... where is Ian Chappell? Where is Ian Chappell? Missing him so much on this wicket. Had the single been taken on the previous ball, Azam would not have been dismissed on this one because he would not have been on strike at all! Beauty of a ball from Rabada. Nothing to do with the crack. This is just sensational reverse swing bowling. KG lands it on a length around off and then gets it to move away late. Azam looks to defend, thinking he has covered the line but then gets squared up due to the late away movement. Boom. The off stump is hit hard. Massive blow. 100/5 are Pakistan effectively.
Sarfraz Ahmed (C)(W)c Faf du Plessis b Kagiso Rabada 0 2 0 0 0
46.2
K Rabada to S Ahmed, OUT! Edged and taken! Sarfraz Ahmed is the scorers' best friend in this Test. Hasn't troubled them at all! A 4-ball duck in the first. A 2-baller here. A nothing shot. Full and outside off, Sarfraz looks to drive but there is not feet movement here. Gets a thick outside edge which goes low to Faf du Plessis at second slip. Nicely taken. Rabada is fired up now. Beware, Pakistan. Beware.
Mohammad Amirb Kagiso Rabada 12 10 2 0 120
48.6
Rabada to M Amir, OUT! Rattled! Timber! Rabada is on fire here! Number 7 falls! This is due to the cracks on the pitch. But will Rabada care? He lands this on a length outside off and Amir looks to defend from his crease. But unfortunately for him, the ball hits a crack, stays low and goes under the bat. BOOM! The stumps are shattered. Pakistan are effectively 116/7!
Yasir Shahc Quinton de Kock b Duanne Olivier 0 1 0 0 0
49.2
D Olivier to Shah, OUT! Yasir lasts just one ball! Caught behind! It is a short ball which has done the trick. Surprised? Asian batsman. Tail-ender. Bouncy track. Fast bowler. This is banged in on a pitch outside off, Shah tamely looks to defend but can do nothing for the steep bounce. The ball takes the outside edge and flies to Quinton de Kock. 117/8 now effectively! Pakistan have lost 5/25 in 63 balls! MAIDEN 10-FER FOR OLIVIER! And who is he? A backup bowler for South Africa!

Shaheen Afridic Aiden Markram b Duanne Olivier 4 9 1 0 44.44

D Olivier to Afridi, OUT! Caught! It is not a no ball and that ends the Pakistan innings! A short ball, at the body, Afridi goes deep in his crease and looks to work it to the leg side but cannot quite do so. The ball brushes his gloves, then goes onto his pads, lobs towards short leg where Aiden Markram reacts quickly, tries to pouch but fumbles. However, he grabs it off the rebound and that is it! SOUTH AFRICA NEED 149 TO WIN!

S Masood to Elgar, OUT! EDGED, DROPPED BUT THEN TAKEN! Pakistan have a second wicket at last. Too late but something is better than nothing. FIRST TEST WICKET FOR SHAN MASOOD. At least he can celebrate. Full and outside off, Elgar reaches out to drive but gets an outside edge as there is no feet movement. The ball flies behind and Sarfraz Ahmed dives to his left. Fluffs it in the first attempt but takes it in the second. End of the 119-run stand. Just 30 more needed now.

H Ali to Markram, OUT! There goes the first wicket and the scoreboard is not even moving! What a start for Pakistan. One might have wondered whether Afridi would have been a better option but Hasan has done he job. A wicket second ball. This is on a length and outside off. Markram stays back to defend but the ball shoots low, jags back in and hits him on the back pad. Hasan appeals, umpire Bruce Oxenford thinks for a while and then raises the slow death! Aiden walks across to his partner, probably the customary question - 'Did you hit it, mate?' would have been asked by Elgar. A shake of the head follows. And then comes the long walk by Markram towards the dressing room.

47.2
S Afridi to Plessis, OUT! Top edge and taken! A pair for Faf du Plessis! Neither captain has managed to trouble the scorers with the bat in this Test. And it is Afridi who gets his man for the second time in this game. In the first innings, it was a brute of a short ball which had Faf hopping and edging one to gully. Here, it is the short delivery again which Faf looks to pull. With his eyes closed. Gets a top edge, due to the extra bounce and Hasan Ali takes a decent catch at the long leg fence. Decent because the ropes were just behind him. Afridi gets to raise his arms like Shahid Afridi and then smile.
