Namibia’s Raymond Van Schoor, who suffered a stroke five days back during a match, passed away at the age of 25 in Windhoek. His tragic demise brings back the sad memories of Phil Hughes, who passed away almost exactly a year back after being hit on head during a match.

Van Schoor suffered a stroke during a CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge match that was being played between Namibia and Free State in Windhoek. The 25-year-old came to bat for Namibia in the 35th over of their innings and scored 15 runs from 16 balls. It is then when Van Schoor complained of dizziness and asked for water. He reportedly took a sip or two and the next moment he stumbled over in his team-mates’ arms. He was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the ICU since he had some swelling on the brain. He remained in stable yet critical condition for five days, before passing away.

One of the youngest players to represent Namibia, Van Schoor played 92 First-Class matches and also represented Namibia in both the recent ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in 2015 as well as Namibia’s most recent ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Ireland in Windhoek. Previously, the 25-year-old was also the captain of Namibia’s Under-15 team.
