READ: Mahmudullah leads Khulna Titans to 6-wicket win over Dhaka Dynamites; finish 2nd in BPL 2016 table
Until now, both these sides have clashed twice in the group stage. Titans have got the better of Dynamites on both occasions with the last win cementing a place for Mahmudullah’s side in playoffs. The momentum is certainly in Titans’ hand as the head-to-head- encounter keeps them in good stead before the all important game. Nonetheless, one cannot rule out Shakib Al Hasan’s Dynamites’ chances as they were the table toppers and dominated with 8 wins from 12 games.
In the first face-off between both sides in BPL 2016, Titans won the game by 9 runs. Batting first, Titans managed to get to a decent total of 157 for 5 in 20 overs. Mahmudullah’s 62 along with vital cameos from Andre Fletcher and Suvagata Hom gave their bowlers something to defend.
In reply, Dynamites struggled from the start but late flourish from Seekkuge Prasanna and Mosaddek Hossain kept Dynamites in the hunt. Nonetheless, a three-wicket haul from Kevin Cooper and Mosharraf Hossain gave a close win to the Titans.
In the last encounter between these two sides, which was also the last group stage match, the story remained the same. In a must-win clash for Titans, Dynamites batted first to post 158 for 7 in 20 overs. Riding on Kumar Sangakkara’s 59, Shakib’s side had the edge going into the final innings. However, another captain’s knock from Mahmudullah saw his side home to enter the eliminators.
A riveting battle awaits which will give us the first finalist of BPL 2016 while the loser will have another go in Qualifier 2.
