Thiruvananthapuram: It doesn t seem to be going India s way today. After the senior team were crushed to an embarrassing eight-wicket loss in New Zealand, the India A team too fell short by one wicket to the England Lions, who have pocketed a consolation win in the fifth and final match on Thursday. India A won the series 4-1.

The hosts were skittled for a paltry 121 in just 35 overs with fast bowler Jamie Overton emerging as the pick of the bowlers with three for 24 in his seven overs at 3.43.

In an otherwise shoddy batting display by both sides at the Greenfield Stadium in Trivandrum, Ben Duckett stood firm and held the visitors innings together. The 24-year-old Northamptonshire batsman top scored with an unbeaten 70 off 86 to seal the chase.

Skipper Ankit Bawne departed to Bailey without troubling the scorers after facing 17 deliveries. India A s second-highest scorer came in Axar Patel, who added 23 off 52. Besides Overton, Bailey chipped in with two wickets in his eight overs and went for 23 runs.
