Ravindra Jadeja to replace injured Hardik Pandya for Australia ODI series

Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the T20I and ODI series against Australia due to lower back stiffness with Ravindra Jadeja replacing the Baroda all-rounder in the ODI squad. No replacement have been named for the T20I series. (ALSO READ: All you need to know: India vs Australia series)

“The BCCI Medical team decided to rest the all-rounder and let him undergo strength and conditioning work for his lower back at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Mr. Pandya will begin his strength work from next week,” a BCCI release stated. The T20I squad will now consist of 14 members. (ALSO READ: Five takeaways from India’s ODI squad to face Australia)

Pandya had been dealing with a lower back issue for a while and had to be stretchered off the field during the Asia Cup 2018 match against Pakistan in September and was forced to miss the West Indies series at home and the T20I series in Australia. Even though he was called up for the Tests, he was benched last two Tests before a suspension ahead of the Australia ODI series saw him called back to India along with KL Rahul, for his sexist comment on a TV show.

Pandya made his return in the New Zealand series playing three ODIs and three T20Is. In the ODIs, he picked up four wickets and scored 16 and 45. In the T20Is, Pandya proved to be expensive giving away 2/51, 1/36 and 0/44 in the three matches.
