IPL Auction 2019: Big hitter Sherfane Rutherford joins Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore

Adding to a distinct West Indian flavour at the 2019 IPL player auction in Jaipur on Tuesday, the uncapped 20-year-old Guyanese batsman Sherfane Rutherford was purchased by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore from a base price of Rs 40 lakh.

Rutherford, who made headlines when he slammed six sixes in a 13-ball 45 for Guyana Amazon Warriors against Trinbago Knight Riders in this year’s Caribbean Premier League, saw his name attracting plenty of interest from Capitals and two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders.

His hitting prowess was also on show during the inaugural Global T20 Canada, when he smacked 11 fours and 10 sixes during a 66-ball unbeaten 134 in teh Qualifier against an attack featuring Tim Southee, Sheldon Cottrell, Andre Russell and Fawad Ahmed.

This earned him a spot in West Indies’ T20I squad for a series against India in November. He did not get a chance on tour, but brings to the Capitals squad a proper big-hitting option.
