Kevin Pietersen continued to make merry for Delhi Daredevils against Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. He used hsi reach to great effect to thwack boundaries and sixes. He was particularly severe on Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. Bumrah though, deceived him with a slower delivery, only for Merchant de Lange to drop the catch. At the other end, Murali Vijay was more circumspect. Vijay though, was stumped off the bowling of Shreyas Gopal.

Earlier, Michael Hussey showcased his class with a brilliant knock of 56.  Hussey’s knock helped Mumbai to register 173 runs on the board. He played shots all over the park. Hussey even used his feet to Shahbhaz Nadeem, the slow left arm orthodox and smashed him for a six.  Hussey though, was finally run out for a well-measured innings of 56 off 33 balls. Lendl Simmons, his opening partner gave him good support by essaying a fine knock of 35. Imran Thair though, got three wickets and that helped Delhi to make a comeback into the game.

It has to be remembered that it is a must win game for Delhi. They also need to up their net run rate by considerable margin. All the Delhi’s bowlers were a touch inconsistent early on. But during the end overs, Jaydev Unadkat and Tahir did strike at regular intervals to help Delhi keep Mumbai’s batsmen in check. Even Nadeem, the slow left arm orthodox snared the wicket of Ambati Rayudu. Harbhajan Singh too lost his wicket to Wayne Parnell. Finally, Delhi will be happy that they were able to pull back Mumbai’s score to 173.
