Plate-Rd6-Day4

Uttarakhand pocketed three points to consolidate their position at the top after Round 6 of their Plate group match of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season against Nagaland ended in a draw on Monday.

Resuming their second innings at 182/4, still adrift by 168 runs, Nagaland managed to salvage a point, courtesy Abrar Kazi’s unbeaten 157, that proved to be the bedrock of the innings as the visiting side ended the day at 467/7.

On the final day, Nagaland’s 112-run partnership between captain Rongsen Jonathan and Kazi was broken with Jonathan edging it behind to Viabhav Bhatt off Mayank Mishra. Jonathan scored a brisk 64 off 87, an innings that was decorated with 10 boundaries and one six. Tahmeed Rahman fell in the next delivery off Mishra after being trapped leg before.

Paras Dogra and Kazi then conjured 61 runs for the seventh wicket. Dogra, who scored a scintillating 253 against Sikkim and followed it up with 139 in Nagaland’s previous match against Arunachal Pradesh, this time added just 37 to hand the left-arm spinner Mishra his third wicket.

Kazi and Nitesh Lohchab then ensured no further alarm to Nagaland’s batting unit as they stitched 137 runs for the eighth wicket to remain unbeaten when stumps were drawn on the final day.

For Uttarakhand, Mishra was the pick of the bowlers with three for 82 in his 32 overs. Walking away with just one point sees Nagaland drop to seventh spot, four points below Manipur.
