After securing a first-innings lead, Gujarat are poised for a big win as they have reduced Maharashtra to 137/6 in their second essay on day three of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19 Round 8 Elite A match on Tuesday.

Declaring their first innings at a massive 545/8, ahead by 315 runs, Maharashtra were immediately on the backfoot with Roosh Kalaria sending opener Chirag Khurana for a duck in the third ball of the innings. Ruturaj Gaikwad was cleaned up by Chintan Gaja in the 15th over for 18. Rohit Motwani didn’t waste much time at the crease and was dismissed lbw by Arzan Nagwaswalla.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Gaja returned to pick his second scalp after Rahul Tripathi was caught by Kalaria and departed for just 2. Gugale, who faced 76 balls for his 18, was cleaned up by Kalaria, while Piyush Chawla claimed the last wicket of the day in Naushad Shaikh, who scored 40.

Earlier, resuming their first innings at 414/3, ahead by 184 runs, Manprit Juneja’s 87 and Chawla’s unbeaten 50 carried the visiting side to over the 500-run total which captain Priyank Panchal was enough to defend. Juneja, who faced 117 balls for his 87, carted 10 boundaries, while Chawla smashed seven fours and one six for his 62-ball 50.

For Maharashtra, pacer Anupam Sanklecha and Khurana picked up three wickets each.
