With hopes of a quarter-final berth on the line, Jharkhand were able to make the most of the second day bundling out Jammu and Kashmir for 151 with pacer Ajay Yadav emerging as the pick of the bowlers with five wickets in their Ranji Trophy 2018-19 Round 9 Elite C match on Tuesday.
The opening day’s play was washed out due to a wet outfield without a single ball bowled. Jharkhand, currently in the third spot with 33 points, are locked in battle with Uttar Pradesh, in second with 38 points, for a place in the quarters.

Only two teams from Group C can make it to the knockouts. Rajasthan sealed their passage earlier in the day after a thumping innings and 77-run win against Tripura.
Opting to bat at the Government Gandhi Memorial Science College ground in Jammu, J&K two wickets – Qamran Iqbal and Suryansh Raina in 10.4 overs. Yadav wrote his name on both the wickets. He first had opener Iqbal for 17 in the eighth over and then saw the back of Shubham Khajuria, who added just four.
The other opener Suryansh Raina and captain Parvez Rasool fell in quick succession – both to Yadav. It took a fighting 76 from Owais Shah to see J&K to a respectable total. Shah’s 94-ball knock was decorated with six boundaries and four sixes. India allrounder Irfan Pathan added just 15 before he was cleaned up by Anukul Roy.

For Jharkhand, Yadav returned with figures of five for 16 in his 11.4 overs, while Roy snapped three for 27 in his seven overs. In reply, Jharkhand were nine for no loss, behind by 142 runs.
