Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir have powered Kolkata Knight Riders to a good start against Kings XI Punjab in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 game at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. In the fourth over, which was bowled by Mitchell Johnson, Kolkata picked up 19 runs. Uthappa first got a top-edge over third-man for a six. later, he lofted one down the ground for four and then flicked two more through the leg-side for a couple of more boundaries. Then, in the fifth over, Gambhir pulled one over mid-wicket off Sandeep Sharma for a four. Akshar Patel was then introduced in the sixth over. In that over, Uthappa tried a few reverse sweeps, but then he charged down the ground and timed it over the top for a four.
Earlier, Kolkata won the toss and chose to bowl first on a good looking surface at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. Kolkata brought in Morne Morkel and Piyush Chawla for Shakib Al Hasan and Vinay Kumar. Punjab dropped Shivam Sharma and Laksmipathy Balaji and brought back Parwinder Awana and Rishi Dhawan. On the back of Virender Sehwag’s 74, Punjab scored 149 for eight in their 20 overs.
