Riding on Rohit Sharma’s fluent fifty, Mumbai Indians have posted 125 runs for the loss of four wickets after the end of the 18th over against Chennai Super Kings at Dubai in the crucial ongoing 13th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. Mumbai captain, Rohit Sharma and Corey Anderson strung a strong partnership to stabilize the Mumbai innings after they lost both their openers inside the first four overs.
They would have ideally liked the two of them to continue and finish the innings in style, but Anderson was run out off a direct hit from Ravichandran Ashwin in the 16th over. Anderson’s departure has meant the arrival of big Kieron Pollard into the centre. Rohit too didn’t last long after that, as he departed for 50 off 41 balls in the 18th over.
Rohit has looked good so far. He brought up his fifty in his 40 balls. This is also Rohit’s 100th IPL match.
On the other hand, Chennai will be quite happy till this point in the innings. The pitched has good carry, and looks good for scoring big. Their pacers have done a superb job till this point. Mohit Sharma has been particularly impressive, giving away just 12 runs from his three overs and also accounting for the wicket of Aditya Tare.
Earlier in the innings, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai Indians made a poor start, as they lost Michael Hussey in the second over of the innings. He was bowled by Ben Hilfenhaus.
Chennai started the innings with Ishwar Pandey. He gave away just two runs from the first over. In the second over, Aditya Tare greeted Hilfenhaus into the attack with two glorious boundaries through the offside.
Hussey’s dismissal saw a change in the batting order of Mumbai as they promoted New Zealand’s big-hitting all-rounder, Corey Anderson to No 3. On the other end, Tare continued his assault as he struck Pandey for two more glorious fours in the third over.
MS Dhoni didn’t waste any time in introducing Ravichandran Ashwin into the attack, as the off-spinner came on to bowl the fourth over of the innings. The offie started off well, conceding just a couple of runs from his first over. Dhoni has shuffled his bowlers so far, as he introduced Mohit Sharma into the attack for the fifth over. Mohit instantly reaped him the rewards as he got the prized wicket of Tare. The right hander tried to slog him over mid-on, but ended up giving an easy catch to Suresh Raina.
The fall of the second wicket brought the Mumbai captain, Rohit Sharma to the centre. Then he andAnderson strung the 84-run partnership which shaped the Mumbai innings.
