Shikhar Dhawan is fondly known as Gabbar, presumably for his envious moustache. The term takes us back to Ramesh Sippy’s 1975 blockbuster Sholay, in which Amjad Khan immortalised the character of Gabbar Singh. Then in 2015, in Krish’s Gabbar is Back, Akshay Kumar played the lead. Quite interestingly, Dhawan, who is among the nicest and most fun-loving guys in Team India, has been nicknamed after Hindi cinema’s most iconic antagonist. However, neither Akshay nor Amjad is Dhawan’s favourite actor. In an interview with Cricket Today, Dhawan revealed that his favourite actor is Aamir Khan. His Delhi teammate and national captain Virat Kohli too is a huge Aamir fan. Aamir’s latest release Dangal has already grossed over INR 2,000 crore in the box office. Dhawan also revealed that his favourite actress is Kareena Kapoor Khan. Interestingly, Aamir and Kareena have worked in two Bollywood hit films: Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots (2009) and Reema Kagti’s Talaash (2012). When it comes to movies, Dhawan has a different taste. His favourite film is John Avildsen’s Rocky (1976), starring Sylvester Stallone.
Cricket
When it comes to cricket, Dhawan terms Lord’s as his favourite venue — this, despite the fact that he has played a solitary Test at Lord’s and has scored 38 from 2 innings. He also named Sachin Tendulkar as his favourite cricketer. Nicknamed Daddy D for his seniority, Dhawan has successfully filled the colossal boots of Tendulkar as India’s ODI opener and has done exceptionally well in ICC tournaments.
Tendulkar had amassed 2,719 runs at 52.28 in ICC ODI tournaments (World Cup and Champions Trophy). Dhawan, in his short career, has already notched up 1,113 runs at 65.47. While Tendulkar had 7 hundreds from 58 innings, Dhawan already has 5 from 18.
Dhawan has currently hit a golden run in international cricket and scoring runs at will. He has been scoring at will since Champions Trophy and in the recently concluded Test series in Sri Lanka, he struck 2 tons. He extended his run by scoring another century in the first ODI at Dambulla.
