SRH vs DC LIVE, IPL 2019 Eliminator: Shaw, Pant power Delhi Capitals to thrilling two-wicket win

Hello and welcome to out match coverage of Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals at Vishakapatanam.

11.57 pm: DC have booked a date with CSK in Qualifier 2 on May 10. We’ll surely be there. Hope you enjoyed today’s coverage. From all of us here. It’s goodnight!

11.46 pm: Here’s the winning captain Shreyas Iyer sharing his thoughts on the match:

“I can’t express my emotions. It felt like I have been sitting and watching for years when it came to the last two years. I could see the happiness on everyone’s faces. Hoping for another one at Chennai. Looking forward to the next game. But the start they got was really good on this track. We controlled in the middle phase. Mishi pa was exceptional as he conceded only 15 runs. The other bowlers did well to bowl economically. I personally feel you can’t realy control them (on Pant and Prithvi). When you stop a batsman like Pant or Prithvi, it hampers their mind and their flow. It was good that both of them came good tonight.”

11.38 pm: Here’s the losing captain Kane Williamson sharing his comments on tonight’s match:

“It was one of those surfaces that produces such close matches. I believed we had a competitive total after the first half, I knew it would be a tricky chase after the powerplay, with such totals there are small margins, we have been in a position of strength before and haven’t nailed it, today was another such day, a little bit frustrating. Delhi played very well, they are a strong outfit and I think they deserved this win, think they will go all the way. We believed it was a winning total and it looked like it for a long time, they started well and had all the momentum, they had some quality players, as expected on this wicket we squeezed them back and got ourselves ahead, we weren’t not very clinical with the catching or in our bowling, we weren’t great today. It wasn’t our best performance, a few things needed to be changed and it could have been a winning total.

“Warner and Bairstow were brilliant when they were here and they were prolific with the bat, we were without them for the last 2 or 3 games, but we still played very well despite missing them, just not quite getting across the line today. We can reflect back on some games, we had similar matches last time around and we were on the right side of those, not this time though, we were on the underside of those totals. We are building well as a franchise and the development process will have to continue.”

11.30 pm: Do SRH have themselves to be blamed here? Will Kane Williamson’s captaincy be questioned considering he gave Thampi the 18th over when Khaleel, who picked up two wickets, ended up not completing his quota of overs? Lots of questions to be asked, but give it up for this Delhi side, they truly resemble the spirit of the city.

Delhi Capitals innings (TARGET: 163)

20th over: Khaleel Ahmed to bowl the final over of the match. DC need 5 runs to win. After a dramatic first 5 balls, that saw Amit Mishra be given out for obstructing the field, Keemo Paul finishes it off with a BOUNDARY in the last ball as Delhi Capitals win by 2 wickets.

19th over: Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the attack and he has STRUCK first ball with the wicket of Rutherford, but Pant is in no mood to sit down, he has smashed this one over long-off for a SIX, Delhi moments away from Qualifier 2! Pant’s belligerent 49 off just 21 balls ends, he’s done the job for his side, Bhuvi strikes, DC need 5 from 7 balls. 7 runs from this over, DC 158/7

18th over: Basil Thampi is back into the attack. CARNAGE! Rishabh Pant has smashed 2 BOUNDARIES and 2 SIXES, DC need 13 from 13 now. 22 runs from that over, DC 151/5 (Pant 43, Rutherford 9)

17th over: Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back into the attack. Rutherford gets into the act now and Bhuvi has been lifted away over deep long-off for a sixer. DC need 34 from the last 3 overs. (Pant 22, Rutherford 8)

16th over: Mohammad Nabi comes back into the attack. BOOM! Pant takes the aerial route and smashes this one for a SIX, so long as he’s there, Delhi Capitals are still in it, DC 121/5, they need 42 from the last 4 overs. (Rishabh Pant 21, Rutherford 1)

15th over: Rashid Khan into the attack and he has struck with the wicket of the dangerman, Colin Munro, who has been trapped lbw for 14. Wasn’t a googly, didn’t turn much either. The clip was missed and was crashing into the front pad. SRH are still in this. Axar Patel has joined Rishabh Pant in the middle. RASHID KHAN is turning it around for Hyderabad, strikes again with the wicket of Axar, who departs for a DUCK. Sherfane Rutherford is the new batsman in. A MAIDEN over with 2 wickets, DC 111/5 (Pant 12, Ruteherford 0)

14th over: Basil Thampi has been smashed for a BOUNDARY and a SIX by Colin Munro, who’s looking to up the ante here after Khaleel’s twin strikes. 12 runs from the over, DC 111/3 (Munro 14, Pant 12)

13th over: Rashid returns! Just two runs from his third over. He is doing well to keep DC in check. Or are DC playing him out and then go big against the other bowlers? DC 99/2 (Pant 11, Munro 3)

12th over: Nabi to bowl his third over! 10 runs off the over as Pant hits a six. The wicketkeeper-batsman holds the key now in the chase. DC 97/3 (Pant 10, Munro 2)

11th over: Khaleel back into the attack! He strikes twice in the over as SRH are right back into this game. The left-arm pacer has dismissed Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw to push DC on the backfoot. SRH are fighting back. DC 87/3 (Rishabh Pant 2)

10th over: Thampi into his second over! 6 runs from the 10th over as DC move past 80. Good over from the right-arm pacer but SRH will need to scalp a couple of wickets to make a comeback into this match. DC 83/1 (Prithvi Shaw 54, Shreyas Iyer 8)

9th over: Rashid Khan is back into the attack. Prithvi Shaw has brought up his half-century, what a fine knock it has been the youngster. He’s leading this run-chase. 7 runs from this over, which included a BOUNDARY by Iyer, DC 77/1 (Prithvi Shaw 51, Shreyas Iyer 6)

Strategic timeout!

8th over: BOWLING CHANGE: Deepak Hooda comes into the attack to bowl his offspinners and Prithvi Shaw DOES NOT hold back to fire this SIX, he’s flying at the moment. WICKET! Finally, the breakthrough, Hooda strikes, Dhawan departs for 17, went charging down, but missed it completely, excellent keeping by Saha. 13 runs from the over, DC 70/1 (Prithvi Shaw 50, Shreyas Iyer 1)

7th over: BOWLING CHANGE: Basil Thampi comes into the attack. He’s bowled a good one, 2 runs from it, much-needed for SRH. DC 57/0 (Prithvi Shaw 40, Dhawan 16)

6th over: BOWLING CHANGE: Rashid Khan comes into the attack. Just the kind of start Delhi needed. 6 runs from this over that included a BOUNDARY from Shaw, DC 55/0 (Prithvi Shaw 39, Dhawan 15)

5th over: Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes back into the attack. BOOM! Prithvi Shaw’s toying with the bowlers now. He smokes this over a helpless third man fielder. This is stand and deliver stuff, the young batsman has clobbered 2 BOUNDARIES and a SIX, 17 runs in this over, massive for DC 49/0 (Prithvi Shaw 34, Dhawan 14)

4th over: Mohammad Nabi will continue. DROPPED! Tough chance but you are expected to take at this level. Shaw smashes it flat to mid-off, Thampi comes charging in and dives forward, but the ball escapes him. Dhawan finishes this over off with a BOUNDARY, 7 from it, DC 32/0 (Shaw 18, Dhawan 14)

3rd over: BOWLING CHANGE: Khaleel Ahmed has been introduced into the attack. 3 boundaries in this over, all from Prithvi Shaw, he’s on fire, 13 runs from the over, DC 25/0 (Shaw 15, Dhawan 10)

2nd over: SPIN INTRODUCED! Mohammad Nabi comes into the attack and he’s bowled an excellent over, just 2 runs from it. DC 12/0 (Dhawan 10, Shaw 2)

1st over: We’re back with the Delhi Capitals run-chase. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw the openers are already there. Sunrisers Hyderabad stride out to the middle, Bhuvi with the new ball, LET’S ROLL! Back-to-back BOUNDARIES for Dhawan in the 1st over, he looks to be in the mood, DC 10/0 (Dhawan 9, Shaw 1)

Sunrisers Hyderabad innings

9.27 pm: Here’s Martin Guptill reflecting on the SRH innings:

“The wicket is pretty good out there. The wicket started holding up after the first 6 overs and got a bit lower with the old ball. I guess with the new ball it is easy to score. Hopefully our spinners will hold the run rate up if they get off to a good start. We are confident with our bowlers that we can defend this.”

9.24 pm: Delhi were very sloppy at the start and allowed Guptill to take the game away. The spinners pulled this back a little with help from the pitch before the pacers again went for runs at the end. The surface is not an easy one, but both teams would be happy at this stage. SRH have got a par score on this pitch, their bowling attack needs to come good. Back in a few minutes for the DC run-chase.

20th over: Final over coming up! Keemo Paul will do the honours. WICKET! Nabi’s cameo  knock comes to an end, adds 20 off 13. Rashid Khan is the new batsman in. A very dramatic last over comes to an end, Hooda is run out after he collides with Paul, then Rashid gets out for a duck, 11 runs from the over and SRH finish at 162/8

19th over: Trent Boult comes back into the attack and Shankar welcomes with a lovely shot to the BOUNDARY, he has used the angle of Boult to superb effect. GONE! So, after smashing a four and a six, Vijay Shankar departs for 25, Boult takes his 1st. 14 runs from the over, SRH 151/5 (Nabi 14, Deepak Hooda 3)

18th over: Keemo Paul is back into the attack. FOUR!  Smashed! Stand and deliver from Nabi. He literally stood there and admired the shot.  10 runs from the Keemo Paul over which included 2 BOUNDARIES, one each by Nabi and Shankar, SRH 137/4 (Shankar 15, Nabi 14)

17th over: Axar Patel is back into the attack and he’s been welcomed with a BOUNDARY by Nabi. 12 runs from this over, SRH 127/4 (Shankar 10, Nabi 9)

16th over: Ishant Sharma comes back into the attack. WICKET! Ishant has crashed into Williamson’s woodwork, right at the base of the off stump, the SRH captain departs for 28. Mohammad Nabi joins Vijay Shankar in the middle. 11 runs and the wicket in this over, SRH 115/4 (Nabi 4, Shankar 3)

15th over: BOWLING CHANGE: Sherfane Rutherford has been introduced into the attack. FOUR! Williamson makes room and clatters it wide of cover for a BOUNDARY! Sunrisers Hyderabad need more to these. 11 runs from this over, SRH 104/3 (Williamson 23, Shankar 2)

Strategic timeout!

14th over: WICKET! Keemo Paul is back into the attack and immediately strikes with the wicket of Manish Pandey, who gets caught by Rutherford. Pandey departs for 30. The partnership was beginning to grow, but it’s all over now. Vijay Shankar joins his captain. 5 runs from the over, SRH 93/3 (Williamson 14, Vijay Shankar 1)

13th over: Amit Mishra will continue. 6 runs from the over, SRH 88/2 (Pandey 29, Williamson 11)

12th over: Axar Patel will continue from the other end. FOUR! Fraction too short and Manish Pandey slices it past the reach of Munro at backward point, much-needed boundary for Sunrisers. 7 runs from the over, SRH 82/2 (Pandey 26, Williamson 8)

11th over: Amit Mishra will continue. The wicket seems to be getting slower and slower with each over. DROPPED! Pant has dropped it, that was a regulation catch and Pant didn’t go down with the ball, stood tall and fluffed it, Williamson survives. Another tidy over by Mishra, 4 from it. SRH 75/2 (Pandey 21, Williamson 6)

10th over: Spin from both ends! Axar Patel is back into the attack. He concedes 4 runs, SRH 71/2 (Pandey 18, Williamson 5)

9th over: Amit Mishra will continue and he’s bowled an excellent over, just 2 runs from it. Time now for DC to take control of this game with both the SRH openers back in the hut. SRH 67/2 (Pandey 16, Williamson 3)

8th over: BOWLING CHANGE: Keemo Paul comes into the attack. 3 wides already in this over, Paul finding it tough to maintain his line. 7 from the over, SRH 65/2 (Pandey 14, Williamson 3)

7th over: BOWLING CHANGE: Amit Mishra comes into the attack. MASSIVE WICKET! Delhi wanted to see the back of Guptill, and Mishra has done just that, he provides a massive strike in his second delivery of this match. The New Zealander skews it towards deep mid-wicket where Keemo Paul took a fine tumbling catch. Guptill departs for 36 off just 19. Kane Williamson, the captain, has joined Pandey in the middle. Fine over by Mishra ends, 4 runs and the wicket, SRH 58/2 (Pandey 13, Kane Williamson 1)

Strategic timeout!

6th over: Ishant Sharma will continue. 50 up SRH in 5.4 overs. FOURS! Manish Pandey gets into the act smashing a couple of BOUNDARIES, 10 runs from this over, SRH 54/1 (Guptill 35, Pandey 11)

ICYMI, here’s the drama that unfolded in the first ball of the innings:

5th over: First signs of spin, Axar Patel comes into the attack. BOOM! Guptill absolutely toying with the #DelhiCapitals bowling attack, he has clobbered this one off Axar Patel over deep square leg, 7 from the over, SRH 44/1 (Guptill 34, Pandey 2)

4th over: WICKET! Ishant Sharma STRIKES in the first ball with the wicket of Saha, who was never in control of the shot and miscued it, departs for 8. Manish Pandey has joined Guptill in the middle. 6 runs from the over, SRH 37/1 (Guptill 28. Manish Pandey 1)

3rd over: Boult will continue. BOOM! Guptill again this time, one-handed chip over deep extra cover! He finishes the over with consecutive SIXES, 15 runs from the over, SRH 31/0 (Guptill 23, Saha 8)

2nd over: Ishant Sharma will share the new ball with Boult. BOOM! Guptill sends this one into orbit, it was high, but it has distance as well, first SIX. 8 from the over, SRH 16/0 (Guptill 9, Saha 7)

1st over: Right then, knockout time, out come the SunRisers openers Saha and Guptill, Trent Boult has the new ball, we’re READY TO ROLL!  Dramatic start in the first ball, DRS saves Saha after Boult rapped the front pad straightaway in the first ball. The umpire said yes, but the review taken and it was an inside edge. Saha survives on the very first ball. Beatifully struck by Saha, hint of width and he lays into the back foot punch. SRH 8/0 (Wriddhiman Saha 6, Martin Guptill 2)

7.09 pm: Captains have their say at the toss:

Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer: “We are going to bowl first. The wickets looks a bit sticky. We practised yesterday and there was dew – it is an added advantage. We are going to treat it as another game. But it is a playoff and the players are nervous. It is good to be nervous because it gets the best out of yourself. I believe everyone was enthusiastic in practise yesterday to come and perform, you saw that with how eager I was to flip the coin. We are looking forward to this game. We have only one change – Colin Munro comes in for Colin Ingram.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson: “That is the case, we were also looking to bowl first. It looks like a good surface little bit on the tacky side. But we have to see how it plays and assess the conditions as we go by. Manish has been playing really well. Obviously couple of players have left us, but at the end of the day the team has been playing some good cricket, just not quite getting across the line. So important for us to make that step up today. We also have one change – Hooda comes in for Yusuf Pathan.”

7:05 pm: Here are the playing XIs:

Delhi Capitals make one change with Colin Ingram making way for Colin Munro.

DC XI: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Colin Munro, Shreyas Iyer(c), Rishabh Pant(w), Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel, Keemo Paul, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma, Trent Boult

Sunrisers Hyderabad too make one change with Deepak Hooda coming in for Yusuf Pathan.

SRH XI: Wriddhiman Saha(w), Martin Guptill, Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson(c), Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Nabi, Deepak Hooda, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, K Khaleel Ahmed, Basil Thampi

7:00 pm: TOSS: Shreyas Iyer wins toss and Delhi Capitals opt to bowl.

6.56 pm: PITCH REPORT: “It is beautifully flat. India played a low scoring T20I against Australia. It is very dry and there are a few cracks. It is a bit like mosaic surface, quite soft in spots. There might not be too much pace on the pitch. Change of pace will be the key for the fast bowlers,” says Michael Slater.

6.51 pm: It’s been two matches since Delhi Capitals have been without Kagiso Rabada, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury. Trent Boult has really not filled in his shoes perfectly. Chris Morris, now in South Africa’s ICC World Cup 2019 squad, may find a place in the playing XI. (READ: I’ve been a bit disappointed for not playing too many games: Trent Boult)

6.49 pm: Both teams have arrived at Vizag and have begun their warm-up drills.

6.47 pm: Hyderabad have reached the IPL final twice in the last three years. They won the tournament in 2016 and lost in the final in 2018. This time, the side has been over reliant on David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, who have left Indian shores for national duty. Who will be that game-changer for the Orange Army today?

6.30 pm: It’s as plain and simple as it can get, the team that wins goes on to face Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 2 on May 10, while the other have to pack their bags and go home. Delhi Capitals have entered the IPL Playoffs after seven long years and in that time, Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t just come into existence, but were also crowned champions. It’s a team that knows every worth of entering the knockouts for the first time against a team that finished as runner-up last season. Stick around as we build up to the IPL Eliminator from the coastal city of Vizag.

Dream 11 Tips and Predictions

Today’s IPL Eliminator is a knockout match between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

The Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals finished the league stage at third on the IPL 2019 points table, whereas Kane Williamson’s Sunrisers squeezed into the playoffs after Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders, thus becoming the first team to reach the playoffs with only 12 points.

The Delhi franchise might consider themselves unlucky to be playing the Eliminator despite claiming 18 points, while SRH are lucky to find a place in the IPL playoffs.

The winner of this match will play Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 2 on Friday.

Let’s look at the Dream11 fantasy scenario for the Eliminator match between DC and SRH:

My Dream XI Team

Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shreyas Iyer (CAPTAIN), Kane Williamson (VICE-CAPTAIN), Manish Pandey, Shikhar Dhawan, Axar Patel, Mohammad Nabi, Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Basil Thampi
