Kings XI Punjab were off to a strong start, thanks to some hard-hitting by opening duo Murali Vijay and Manan Vohra at the start of the innings. Trent Boult, who made his first appearance since SRH’s match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 2, was smashed for 16 runs in the second over of the Punjab innings by Vijay, including a six and two fours. The hitting continued for the next few overs, before Vijay mistimed a Bipul Sharma delivery and was caught by Shikhar Dhawan at extra cover. KXIP lost their first wicket with 42 on board, though they were yet to lose hope due to talented batting lineup. IPL 2015: Complete Coverage
Five runs were added to the KXIP total, before Bipul struck another blow on the visitors, this time removing Vohra for a 15-ball 2o. Glenn Maxwell was next to arrive at the crease with a struggling form. The ‘Big Show’, as he is popularly known, struck his first six off the fifth ball that he faced, Maxwell’s innings would be cut-short after six deliveries though, as he edged a Boult delivery to wicketkeeper Naman Ojha. With Maxwell failing yet again with the bat, with the scorecard reading 60 for three, KXIP were beginning to stare at the prospect of another defeat. It was a one-way street for the next few overs, as the visitors slumping to 99 for six in the 15th over with Wriddhiman Saha, skipper George Bailey and Gurkeerat Singh departing without adding much to the total. David Miller refused to go down without a fight however, getting at least one boundary off every over thereafter. With Akshar Patel on the other side of the pitch, Miller began to play without any pressure and expectations. Boult completed an off day with the ball by conceding 18 runs off his last over of the innings, finishing with figures of 4-0-45-1. IPL 2015 Highest run-scorer: List of best batsmen in IPL 8
Patel was dismissed off the last ball of the 19th over, edging the Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivery to the wicketkeeper, with the visitors needing 28 to win off the last six deliveries. Miller’s presence at the crease was the only reason SRH fans had any hopes of a win. Ishant Sharma, whom skipper Warner had entrusted with the ball, had the reputation of not being the best of bowlers for the death overs. Miller did a great job of hitting three sixes and a four under pressure, though KXIP eventually fell short by five runs. IPL 2015 Highest wicket-taker: List of best bowlers in IPL 8
