Once Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their key man, Chris Gayle in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 game against Kolkata Knight Riders, Virat Kohli tried to mak a good fist of the chase. He collected four runs by playing a shot down the ground. It has to be remembered that they are chasing down a huge target of 196 runs on the board. For Kolkata, both Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav bowled well. Yogesh Takawale too collected a boundary in the fifth over of their innings. Ryan ten Doeschate and Manish Pandey then made a mess of a catch by colliding. It meant Yogesh Takawale had a life.
Earlier, Kolkata lost early wickets, while playing in a key a game against Bangalore. But Robin Uthappa and Shakib Al Hasan helped them to recover and reach 195 for the loss of four wickets on the board. Gautam Gambhir, Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan were out during the early part of their innings. Yusuf did play a few eye-catching shots, but then got run out.
It was Uthappa, who showcased his class by compiling a superlative half-century. He played shots all over the park including strokes over extra cover. He played his innings with precise metre of timing and placement. Uthappa made 83 not out for them.On the the other hand, Shakib-Al Hasan the all-rounder too shone brightly.
