Zimbabwe and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) face each other in their Pool B encounter of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at the Saxton Oval in Nelson on Thursday. While UAE make play their first game in the ongoing edition of cricket’s showpiece event, Zimbabwe head to the game in positive spirits after nearly causing an upset in their opening game of the tournament against South Africa. Zimbabwe have shown great potential in the games that they have played since landing in Australia, having given co-hosts New Zealand a tough fight before thrashing South Asian giant Sri Lanka by seven wickets during their warm-up fixtures. During their game against South Africa, they had gained the early advantage during both innings. Sending South Africa in to bat, the Zimbabweans had reduced them to 83 for four, before the Proteas raced to 339 for four. UAE, on the other hand, are a largely inexperienced side, with the likes of skipper Mohammad Tauqir and Khurram Khan being the players with the most experience. They did however, beat World Cup debutant Afghanistan during the a bilateral series played ahead of the mega-event. This is UAE’s second World Cup appearance since the 1996 edition, in which they crashed out of the tournament in the first round itself.
