As the 10th edition of the highly successful cash-rich Twenty20 (T20) League in the world, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 draws near, the excitement once again is setting to be built up, as the much important IPL Auction 2017 is all set to get underway at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Bengaluru on Monday. The 10th edition of IPL and the IPL Auction 2017 will be the final editions of the partial IPL Auction, before all the players from the current IPL sides go under the hammer next season (2018). As for this season, the franchises have already have their teams marginally set, while all they need is just a few more players to complete the squad for the upcoming season, which is set to get underway from April 5. Each of the franchises has been set a limit of a certain amount of money they can spend during the auction, while they reach their maximum quota of players required in the squad. The amount of money to be spent by each franchise was decided by the IPL Governing Council on the basis of a certain guidelines, depending on the amount of players retained and released earlier, prior to the IPL Auction 2017. Each team will be allowed to have a maximum of 27 players per side, while a maximum of 9 overseas players can be owned by each side. Officially, a maximum of 76 players and 28 overseas players can be bought by the sides in the IPL Auction 2017, after calculating the amount of vacant player spots in the sides. As said above, the 10th edition of IPL will get underway from April 5, as the full IPL 2017 schedule was announced by the BCCI and the IPL Governing council earlier last week. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), being the defending champions, will host the opening tie against powerhouse Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), while also hosting the opening ceremony, as well as the final on May 21. Eight teams are once again scheduled to compete in the competition, in the standard format of two games against each side, based on the home and away leg format.

Around 56 league matches are scheduled to be held during the tournament, apart from four play-off matches, including the final. The top four teams in the end would be eligible to play in the play-offs. The matches will be played across 10 venues in the country.
