The ICC Women’s World Twenty20 (T20) 2016 has already made its way with seven warm-up matches played. West Indies Women will play their first warm-up match on Monday against Australia at Chennai. West Indies made their debut in T20I cricket in 2008. They played one-off T20I match against Ireland on June 28 and won it by 75 runs at Dublin. Moving ahead, they won the next T20I series against Netherlands in the same year. In 2009 West Indies won all three-match T20I series against South Africa in South Africa. In 2011 West Indies faced difficulties against India at home in the three-match T20I series with India sealing it by 2-1. But West Indies continued their winning stroke against India during their meeting in 2012. The hosts defeated the Indians in the five-match T20I series, 3-2 . West Indies have won against Sri Lanka twice in 2012 and 2013. After winning against Pakistan in September 2012, West Indies were thrashed by England 1-4 at their home ground in the same month. West Indies had a terrible year in 2014 with regards to T20I as they faced disastrous loss against hosts Australia and New Zealand. West Indies ended 2015 on a fine note winning against Pakistan. But West Indies have not had a pleasant start to 2016 losing the three-match T20I series against South Africa. West Indies ICC World T20 record:  In the inaugural edition of ICC Women’s World T20 2009, West Indies were not up to the mark as they won just one match out of the 12 pool matches. Hosts West Indies were successful in reaching the semi-final in World T20 2010 but unfortunately lost it to New Zealand by 56 runs. In the ICC Women’s cricket challenge held in the same year at South Africa proved fruitful as they won against five teams who participated in this challenge. In the 2011 World T20 held at Sri Lanka, West Indies played against Australia in semi-final losing by 28 runs. They reached the semi-final for third time in 2014 but  once again lost at the hands of Australia by 8 runs. West Indies are yet to taste victory in ICC World T20. West Indies Women Key Players: In World T20 2009, Merissa Aguilleira led the team while Stafanie Taylor remained the highest run-scorer from two matches. In 2010, Merissa continued the captaincy while Deandra Dottin gave the perfect start for West Indies in first match of the tournament against South Africa. But Stafanie who remained the highest scorer in the semi-final, went in veins as they lost the match against New Zealand by a margin of 56 runs. In 2012 T20 tournament, Deandra and Stafanie continued their momentum who remained the key players for West Indies. Kycia Knight is yet another key player who opened the innings for West Indies in 2014 and was prominent in World T20 apart from Stafanie and Deandra  who is an all-rounder. From the bowlers Shaquana Quintyne and Shanel Daley who took 4 wickets while they won against Sri Lanka.

West Indies has a well balanced side which they will take as an advantage as they move to World T20 2016. But Indian conditions need to work in their favor as they faced bad luck when they played against India in India and lost the T20I series.
