Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi isn t afraid to ignite controversy, this time with a comment on the disputed Kashmir region. The 38-year-old was addressing students at a British Parliament that s a complete embarrassment to his country and newly-elected Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Pakistan doesn t need Kashmir; it is not able to even handle the four provinces it has, Afridi said on Wednesday.

Afridi batted for the people of Kashmir. Say Pakistan doesn t need Kashmir, don t give it to India as well, let Kashmir become a country. The people dying there should not die; humanity should stay alive. It pains to see people die there, he said.

However, later in the day, Afridi said that his statement has been misconstrued by the media. My comments are being misconstrued by Indian media! I'm passionate about my country and greatly value the struggles of Kashmiris. Humanity must prevail and they should get their rights, he wrote.

This isn t the first time Afridi has spoken about Kashmir. Earlier this year, he expressed his views after innocent people were killed in India Occupied Kashmir .

Appalling and worrisome situation ongoing in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Innocents being shot down by oppressive regime to clamp voice of self determination & independence. Wonder where is the @UN & other int bodies & why aren t they making efforts to stop this bloodshed? his tweeted.
