As things stand, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is likely to remain a legitimate team despite N Srinivasan’s conflict of interest. As a result, CSK remains the strongest side in IPL, and is unlikely to have a very hectic auction.
Chennai, as usual retained their five key players in the form of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Dwayne Bravo. They spent around Rs. 21 crore at the auction and purchsed the likes of Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith, Faf du Plessis, Ashish Nehra, Mohit Sharma along with few others. A moderate purchase session from the two-time champions as they finished with eight more players in their bag with the top buy of Australian great, Michael Hussey for Rs. 1.50 crore. It was also India’s disgraced seamer, Irfan Pathan who was bought in for the same price along with Rahul Sharma and South Africa’s Kyle Abbott for Rs. 30 lakhs each. The 2015 IPL auction is all set to take place in Bangalore on Monday for the upcoming season this year, which will be the eighth edition of the cash-rich league. Around 200 players are expected to go through the auctions with the eight franchises to battle it out with their funds. Delhi Daredevils will be the team to watch out for as they have released most of their players and look to rebuild their team in wake of the dismal performance last season, thus finishing at the bottom of the table.
