Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the second day’s play in the second Ashes 2015 Test between England and Australia at Lord’s. This is Devarchit Varma, and I will be bringing you the live cricket scores and updates of the match. Australia had an excellent first day with Chris Rogers and Steven Smith smashing centuries to power them to a strong total of 337 for 1 at stumps. Rogers and Smith have so far added 259 runs for the second wicket, bettering the record of 231 run-stand between Sir Don Bradman and Bill Woodfull back in 1930. Rogers was unbeaten on 158 while Smith was on 129 not out. Catch live cricket scores and updates of England vs Australia 2nd Ashes 2015 Test at Lord’s, Day 2 here
Australia continue to dominate England for second day on a trot and the hosts have a huge task on their hand. They trail by 481 runs, are 281 runs away from avoiding the follow-on. Not much batting left, it is all up to Cook, Stokes and Jos Buttler to save the blushes. Signing off for today, here is Nikhil Popat’s final assessment for the day.
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 85/4 in Overs 29: England have done well to keep the Australians at bay with their captain Alastair Cook leading the way. A crucial innings this from Stokes but the lead of 481 will not let the hosts sleep easily tonight. That’s all for today, let us see how the Ashes 2015 pans out tomorrow. BATTING: Alastair Cook 21 (85), Ben Stokes 38 (50)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 81/4 in Overs 26: Some fitness issues for Stokes as he has been consuming lot of liquids. Australia have changed their bowling attack and Lyon is off. Mitchell Marsh and Johnson are in operation right now. BATTING: Alastair Cook 19 (70), Ben Stokes 36 (47)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 77/4 in Overs 22: Stokes is going on fluently, hitting the ball well all over the park. Cook is also batting really well, watching the ball closely as he always does. The partnership is nearing 50-run mark. Stokes is trying to take the attack to the opposition, hits a massive six and a four to Nathan Lyon in the 22nd over. England trail by less than 500 now. BATTING: Alastair Cook 17 (54), Ben Stokes 34 (39)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 59/4 in Overs 18: Stokes and Cook have done a fine job for England so far. They have taken England past 50-run mark but there is a huge road ahead to travel. England trail by 507 runs, and do not have much batting left. There are about 10 more overs left in the game though. BATTING: Alastair Cook 13 (45), Ben Stokes 20 (24)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 41/4 in Overs 14: Stokes and Cook have a huge task in their hands to not let Australia makde any more damage, at least today. Stokes is looking in pressure, while Cook is doing his best to keep out the danger. England are 525 runs behind. BATTING: Alastair Cook 8 (35), Ben Stokes 8 (10)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 30/4 in Overs 11: MASSIVE WICKET! Joe Root is caught behind off Johnson and Australia have just ripped out the heart of England’s batting. The hosts would not have thought of such a poor start, their top order has been blown away! BATTING: Alastair Cook 5 (24), Ben Stokes 0 (2)
OUT! Joe Root c Peter Nevill b Mitchell Johnson 1 (4)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 29/3 in Overs 9.1: In an out for Ian Bell! The right-hander fails to read a straight ball, very full on the off stump and he has been cleaned up. Australia are all over England, whose saviour of many battles Joe Root walks out. England trail by 537 runs. BATTING: Alastair Cook 5 (20),
OUT! Ian Bell b Josh Hazlewood 1 (2)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 28/2 in Overs 8.3: Ballance, watch the ball, will ya! The left-handed No. 3 batsman fails to gauge a snorter coming in from Mitch Johnson, and his off-stump has been dismantled. Poor from Ballance, Australia and Johnson rejoice. Ian Bell walks out. England trail by 538. BATTING: Alastair Cook 5 (18),
OUT! Gary Ballance b Mitchell Johnson 23 (31)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 23/1 in Overs 7: No change in the bowling attack. Cook and Ballance have steadied England. Ballance has been batting tad nervously, like he always does but still has managed to stay on. England trail by 543 runs. BATTING: Alastair Cook 5 (17), Gary Ballance 18 (23)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 10/1 in Overs 4: With the new ball the Australian opening pair of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazleood is getting some bounce and swing. There are clouds splattered over Lord’s and the tourists will be eyeing a few more scalps with conditions slightly in favour of the bowlers. BATTING: Alastair Cook 4 (12), Gary Ballance 6 (10)
I am sure you are going to have some strange reactions to this:

LIVE CRICKET SCORES ENGLAND 0/1 in Overs 0.2: WICKET! Adam Lyth falls on the second ball of the innings and Australia continue to hurt England. Lyth is caught behind by Peter Nevill — his first international catch. Bad stroke from the opener as he pokes on a delivery way outside the off-stump, and there is an edge. The entire Australian slip cordon heard it and they were overjoyed as soon as the ‘keeper collected it. BATTING: Alastair Cook 0 (0)
OUT! Adam Lyth c Peter Nevill b Mitchell Starc 0 (2)
Australia have lost seven for 204 today. Even factoring in urgent batting etc, this pitch is not quite the lifeless heap of yesterday

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 566/8 decl. in Overs 149: Mitchell Johnson made intention clear right from the first ball as he tried hitting every ball. He is caught at mid off, and Clarke has signalled that this will be all. Australia declare at 566/8 from 149 overs. England will need some serious batting performance now. BATTING: Mitchell Starc 12 (21)
OUT! Mitchell Johnson c James Anderson b Stuart Broad 15 (30)
Players are here and Australia will bat on.
England will be hoping that Australia declare after tea, as Australia go into the break with 562/7 on board. We will be back in about 20 minutes.
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 551/7 in Overs 146: Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Starc are batting well at the crease. I do not think Clarke would be having declaration on mind, he would instead by looking for quick runs and try and get close to 600. BATTING: Mitchell Johnson 11 (22), Mitchell Starc 5 (14)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 536/7 in Overs 142: England have got another! Peter Nevill could have become the only third Australian wicketkeeper to score a half-century on debut but he has fallen five runs short. Nevill goes for a big hit but plays straight to Moeen Ali at mid off. Mitchell Starc joins Mitchell Johnson. BATTING: Mitchell Johnson 2 (9), Mitchell Starc 0 (3)
OUT! Peter Nevill c Moeen Ali b Joe Root 45 (59)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 533/6 in Overs 139.4: Steven Smith has finally been dismissed! Joe Root gets the priced scalp of the Australian batsman, who goes for a reverse sweep on a ball pitched straight. The ball hit him outside the off stump, and umpire Kumar Dharmasena thinks it was OUT! Smith reviews — first DRS appeal by Australia in this innings — and fails. End of a superb innings, first double century away for Australia since that innings from Jason Gillespie. BATTING: Peter Nevill 44 (57)
OUT! Steven Smith lbw Joe Root 215 (346)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 531/5 in Overs 139: Australia have already added more than 100 runs in this session. There is a lot of time for the tea break, which implies that this run fest will continue unless England find someone to put brakes 0n it. Nevill is bating really well, a half-century on debut is on the cards. Smith has started to open up as well. BATTING: Steven Smith 214 (343), Peter Nevill 43 (56)
.@stevesmith49 becomes the first Aussie to score a double ton away from home since @YCCCDizzy! #Ashes #CmonAussie pic.twitter.com/EPqzgbySWq

LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 505/5 in Overs 135: Steven Smith you beauty! First double century for the Australian run machine, gets to the feat with a four off the leg side. And this is also the first double century by an Australian since 1938, scored by Bill Brown. Smith has been excellent in these to days, starting off a little off the mark but recovered well to post a massive total. What a playa!!! BATTING: Steven Smith 204 (337), Peter Nevill 27 (38)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 491/5 in Overs 133: Peter Nevill is lucky as a leg-before appeal goes in favour. Moeen comes from round the wicket, pitches on the line of middle and leg and the batsman is hit in front of the leg stump. However, umpire Marais Erasmus thinks it was not. England review the decision, DRS shows the ball was clipping the leg stump. The decision stays with the umpire. BATTING: Steven Smith 193 (329), Peter Nevill 24 (34)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 472/5 in Overs 129: Peter Nevill has joined Steven Smith. Nevill has made a brisk, positive start to his Test career. England are going hard at the Aussie debutant but he has managed to collect a few runs. An edge fell short and one went above Joe Root at the gully. Smith is inching close, meanwhile. BATTING: Steven Smith 183 (320), Peter Nevill 20 (19)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 442/5 in Overs 123.4: Mitchell Marsh is OUT! Stuart Broad has dealt a massive blow to Australia as the ball kept a little low. Marsh was taken by surprise with that uneven bounce. He tried to push it on the off side but got an inside edge on to the wickets. Australia were looking for stability and this is a massive blow. They need at least 600 on the board to challenge England on this flat deck. The hosts reap the benefit of attacking with aggressive field placements to this right-handed pair. BATTING: Steven Smith 173 (306),
OUT! Mitchell Marsh b Stuart Broad 12 (15)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 432/4 in Overs 120: Adam Voges is caught behind off the bowling of Stuart Broad. Voges got off to a good start and will be disappointed to have gotten himself out in that fashion. His dismissal brings Mitchell Marsh to the crease. He scored a couple of centuries in the warm-up matches. BATTING: Steven Smith 169 (297), Mitchell Marsh 6 (3)
OUT! Adam Voges c Buttler b Broad 25 (47)
England would have liked a few more wickets given how their bowlers started off, but in hindsight it was only Stuart Broad who actually troubled the Australian batsmen. Michael Clarke’s form should be a worry for Australia going ahead into this series, they cannot have their captain down with poor form. We will return in about 30 minutes, here is Nikhil Popat telling you all that happened in the first session on Day 2 at Lord’s.
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 424/3 in Overs 118: Voges and Smith are going strong. England are attacking with both pace and spin. Australia are perhaps waiting for the lunch break, comeback and bat a little more aggressively. Smith has not shown any sign of deterioration after such a long stay at the crease. Voges has looked very positive, far off form the timid version of him that was seen at Cardiff. It is time for lunch, 87 runs added from 28 overs, and two wickets fallen. BATTING: Steven Smith 168 (295), Adam Voges 24 (40)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 416/3 in Overs 114: Michael Clarke failed because he was perhaps stuck at the crease, not able to find runs. On the other hand, Voges has raced to run-a-ball 24 because he has looked to score aggressively. My two cents on the present situation. Australia have added close to 100 runs this session and have lost only two wickets. BATTING: Steven Smith 160 (283), Adam Voges 24 (28)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 408/3 in Overs 112: This is a little tricky situation for Australia. The two quick wickets would hurt them and they will have to be careful for the remainder of this session. There are about 20 minutes left for tea. Adam Voges is looking positive, and so is Steven Smith. Australia have gone past the 400-run mark. BATTING: Steven Smith 158 (279), Adam Voges 18 (20)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 383/3 in Overs 106.5: OUT! Mark Wood gets England the second wicket of the day, a soft dismissal for Clarke. The ball comes on the bat well but Clarke gives a dolly straight to the man at square leg. England have dealt a crucial blow to Australia, remember, they need 500 at least to be considered ‘safe’ in this game. Adam Voges comes in. BATTING: Steven Smith 151 (268),
OUT! Michael Clarke c Gary Ballance b Mark Wood 7 (32)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 383/2 in Overs 106: What an innings this by Steven Smith He is watching the ball very well, drives one down to the ground for a four and brings up his 150. It is good to see someone going on and getting a big one, will he get a double century here? The platform is ideal for one. Clarke looking good as well. BATTING: Steven Smith 151 (268), Michael Clarke 7 (27)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 378/2 in Overs 104: Michael Clarke has played out two maiden overs, which suggests Australia are looking to grind down the English bowlers now that they have a chance. Smith is three runs away from 150. Wood and Stokes are in operation now. BATTING: Steven Smith 147 (258), Michael Clarke 6 (19)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 368/2 in Overs 100: England have bowled 100 overs in this innings so far. Clarke is taking his time to settle down, while Smith is slowly inching towards his 150. BATTING: Steven Smith 143 (245), Michael Clarke 2 (14)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 364/2 in Overs 98: Michael Clarke would have enjoyed the view from the stands but it is now time for him to take the mantle from Rogers and continue Australia’s charge. Broad is bowling really well, troubling the Aussie skipper outside off as well as bowling him on the pads. BATTING: Steven Smith 139 (229), Michael Clarke 2 (8)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 362/2 in Overs 95.4: WICKET!!! Finally England have something to cheer about as Stuart Broad breaks this stubborn stand. Not much effort from the bowler, the ball was pitched outside off and Rogers went for the drive. The ball hit the inside edge, and deflected from the pads on to the middle stump. End of a marathon partnership of 284 runs, highest for Australia for any wicket at Lord’s. Well played, Buck! BATTING: Steven Smith 133 (228)
OUT! Chris Rogers c Stuart Broad 170 (300)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 352/1 in Overs 94: Australia have resumed in the same pa ssion from where they left. Broad is bending his back, he is making some sort of troubles for both the batsmen. Rogers and Smith beaten on a couple of occasions. Important for England to take early wickets today. BATTING: Chris Rogers 169 (295), Steven Smith 133 (228)
LIVE CRICKET SCORES AUSTRALIA 345/1 in Overs 91: Nasty blow to Rogers on the first ball. It is a new helmet with additional protection that Rogers is using, but he still got hurt. The ball kept tad short and even though he ducked, Rogers got hit. The left-hander is untamed, goes on to collect two glorious boundaries on the off side. BATTING: Chris Rogers 166 (288), Steven Smith 129 (217)
Oh dear! Chris Rogers is hit on the head on the first ball by Jimmy Anderson! He has taken it off and looks like he is bleeding. Rogers is getting some treatment. Rogers is back on the feet after getting treatment done.
Australia will however feel that the job is far from not done. England have shockingly dished out a track which looks more simpler for batting than the one at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, and there is absolutely nothing in it for the bowlers. READ: Where is the real David Warner?
England failed to hit the right line and lengths, and discipline from the Australian batsmen ensured that they get to a strong position in this Test. England bowlers were seen frustrated on the first day as the pitch did not help them in any way, edges did not carry and there was not much swing or seam movement. READ: Ashes 2015: Steven Smith’s battle to Lord’s honours board
Australia would like to get to a total of nothing less than say 550-600, and ensure that they bowl England out in whatever time that is left in the match. In all probability, Australia will like to bat till tea on the second day. READ: Chris Rogers, is it really your time to retire?
