Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the fifth and final day of the ongoing second Test between South Africa and England at Durban on Wednesday. This is Vishal Mehra, and I shall be presenting to you the live updates from the game as and when they occur. At the end of fourth day, South Africa were 136/4 with AB de Villiers batting on 37. He will bat along with Dale Steyn, who is yet to get off the mark. Hosts are chasing a target of 416 and hence require 280 runs to win. England cannot afford to get lose until and unless they take the key wicket of De Villiers. Although, England have an edge in the game still the probability of South Africa drawing the match or even registering a win cannot be ruled out as De Villiers is at the crease and JP Duminy. This has been a very bad morning for South Africa losing 6 wickets in 1 hr 45 minuets of play. Moeen Ali was the chief tormentor for England picking up AB de Villiers in the first over of the day added 2 more wicket to his tally. With only two days before the second Test starts at Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday, South Africa have minimal time in which to find solutions to their batting problems, while their bowling seems certain to be weakened by the absence of star bowler Dale Steyn because of a shoulder injury.

Earlier in the match, Hashim Amla had asked the English team to bat first after having won the toss. England, bolstered by Nick Compton’s 85 and James Taylor’s 70-run knocks posted 303 in the first innings. Steyn and Morne Morkel picked up four wickets each. In reply, South Africa were bowled out for 214 with Dean Elgar scoring a century top of the order. For England, Stuart Broad and Moeen Ali took four wickets each. Thus, England were already leading by 89 runs before they started batting in the second innings. They added 326 more runs to it with Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow scoring half centuries. Right-arm offbreak bowler Dane Piedt took a five-wicket-haul.
South Africa’s openers— Dean Elgar and Stiaan van Zylgave them a decent start in the final innings. However, they failed to convert their 40 and 33-run knocks respectively into big fifties or hundreds. Hashim Amla perished for only 12 runs followed by Faf du Plessis who departed for nine. Responsibility is now on De Villiers shoulders to bail the Proteas out of trouble.
