Greetings! Welkom to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day Five of the ongoing second Test between South Africa and England at the Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday. This is Vishal Mehra, and I shall update you with the events of the game at regular updates for the final day of the second game of the four-Test series. South Africa managed to give England a fitting reply with the bat on the fourth day with a declaration at 627/7 decl. leaving England a lead of just two runs. The day how ever belonged to skipper Hashim Amla and Temba Bavuma, Amla scored a brilliant 201 before Stuart Broad cleaned him up. Bavuma on the other hand became the first ever black to score a ton for South Africa. Going at Stumps England had Alastair Cook and Alex Hales in the middle at the score of 16 for 0, leading by 18 runs. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 159/6 in 65 over |  Lead by 161 | Batting:  Jonny Bairstow 30, Moeen Ali 10 : Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali continue to block their way through the remaining day. Dean Elgar and Dane Piedt are bowling from both the ends because the light is not as good for a fast bowler to come into bowl. Umpire have decided to take light and leave the field for now.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 155/6 in 60 over |  Lead by 157 | Batting: Jonny Bairstow 26, Moeen Ali 10 : Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali will look block anything and everything the South Africa will throw at them. With clouds all around and rain looming it will only hold good for England if they manage to survive 10 or so overs.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 155/6 in 59 over |  Lead by 157 | Batting:   Jonny Bairstow 26, Moeen Ali 10 : TEA!! Bairstow and Moeen have now added 39* runs for the seventh wicket. Baristow was lucky to survive a close call who was stumped by Quiton de Kock just managed to bring his boot inside the crease.Dane Piedt picked up the dangerous Ben Stokes, who had scored a blistering 258 in the first inning. In an attempt to hit Piedt for a consecutive boundary he ended up giving a catch to Morne Morkel situated in the deep. Stoke went for a 34 ball 26. Piedt stuck again as James Taylor managed to find a very faint edge and lob the ball to Temba Bavuma in short-leg. England lead South Africa by 157 with one session of play remaining in the Test. LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 151/6 in 55 over |  Lead by 153 | Batting:   Jonny Bairstow 24, Moeen Ali 8 : Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow have hanged how somehow. After a disastrous start to the session they have batted well keep South Africa bowlers at bay. Ali and Bairstow have managed a partnership of 26* runs. Bairstow survives a very very close call off stumping.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 116/6 in 42.4 over |  Lead by 118 | Batting:   Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali  : OUT!! Dane Piedt picks his third wicket as James Taylor trying to leave lobs one to a hopping Temba Bavuma at short leg. Taylor made a 27 in 84 balls. England since the start of this session has repeated the mistakes from first session. Moeen Ali will want to support Jonny Bairstow if England have any chance to saving this Test from here on.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 115/5 in 41 over |  Lead by 117 | Batting:  James Taylor 75(61), Jonny Bairstow  : OUT!! Ben Stokes and James Taylor had  managed to survive 10.3 overs before Stokes in an attempt to go big gout out sweeping Dane Piedt. Morne Morkel well judged the catch at boundary line. Jonny Bairstow and Taylor will now want to get England past 200 first .

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 100/4 in 36 over |  Lead by 102 | Batting:  James Taylor 26(61), Ben Stokes 11(18)  : Ben Stokes and James Taylor manage to take the England lead past 100. England will need more than 250 to feel secure before South Africa can be able to bat first. Morne Morkel and Chris Morris have bowled a very probing line to both the batsmen.

 LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 90/4 in 32 over |  Lead by 92  | Batting:  James Taylor 23(53), Ben Stokes 3(3)  : Ben Stokes and James Taylor will look to revive England from such a bad slump. This morning has been all about South African bowlers wrecking havoc on the English batsmen. England lost as many as four wickets in the earlier session adding 71 runs. South Africa will need to keep England below 150 if they have any chances of winning the Test.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 87/4 in 31 over |  Lead by 87  | Batting:  James Taylor 23(53), Ben Stokes 2(3)  : England going into lunch are survived by Ben Stokes 2* and James Taylor 23* at 87 for 4 leading South Africa by 89 runs. England have lost four wickets in the 26 overs of the morning session adding 71 runs. Kagiso Rabada started the English collapse with Morne Morkel, Chris Morris and Dane Piedt joining in.

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 85/4 in 30.3 over |  Lead by 87  | Batting:  James Taylor 23(45), Ben Stokes  : OUT!! A poor shot by Nick Compton provides Dane Piedt as wicket. Nick Compton and James Taylor had managed to not give any wickets to South Africa even as they tried to  go into lunch wicketless. Compton and Taylor have so far had a 30 partnership. Taylor was lucky as his catch was spilled by Kagiso Rabada.

 

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 64/3 in 21 over |  Lead by 66  | Batting:  Nick Compton 10(37),James Taylor 7(12)  : Nick Compton and James Taylor have managed to survive the bowling prowess of Chris Morris and Dane Piedt. Piedt has been brought into the attack to pick another wicket going into lunch with South Africa picking up 4 wickets. This has been a forgetful morning for England resuming on 16 for zero have already lost 3 wickets/

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 55/3 in 17.1 over |  Lead by 57  | Batting:  Nick Compton 7(19),James Taylor 0(0)  : OUT!! Chris Morris clean bowls Joe Root. Brilliant first ball by Morris, nips back in as Root tries to defend it. Root had earlier survived to a catch of Morne Morkel which was no ball. Root got out to a quick 29 off 29 balls.James Taylor join Nick Compton in the middle with England looking in deep trouble at 55 for 3 with a lead of 57 runs.

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 50/2 in 15.2 over |  Lead by 52  | Batting:  Nick Compton 7(19), Joe Root 22(23) : This has been an event full morning for England having lost 2 wickets of Alastair Cook and Alex Hales. Joe Root was lucky to survive as Morne Morkel bowled a no ball to a catch into slips. England now lead South Africa by 52 runs now.

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 19/2 in 8.6 over |  Lead by 21  | Batting:  Nick Compton 2(5), Joe Root 0(0) :OUT!! Morne Morkel picks up Alex Hales. England in a span of two overs have lost both their openers. This has been a great morning for South Africa with both Morkel and Kagiso Rabada picking up wickets. England now have two new batsmen in Nick Compton and Joe Root in the middle.

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 17/1 in 7.2 over |  Lead by 19  | Batting:  Alex Hales 5(14), Nick Compton :OUT!! Kagiso Rabada picks up Alastair Cook in his very first over of the day. Cook trying to flick Rabada gets a faint edge to the keeper. This is bad news for England as Cook was looking to bat through till lunch. With a bit of cloud cover it is helping the South African fast bowlers. Nick Compton is out to join Alex Hales in the middle.

 

LIVE CRICKET SCORE: England 17/0 in 7 over |  Lead by 19  | Batting: Alastair Cook 8(25), Alex Hales 5(14) : Morne Morkel started off the over with a no-ball and ended up with a maiden over. Alastair Cook and Alex Hales had safely negotiated the final 7 overs on Day 4 making 16 runs together. Earlier on Day 4 Temba Bavuma scored his first ever Test ton and Chris Morris achieved his first ever Test half century in the process as Hashim Amla declared at 627 for 7 with England having a 2 runs lead.  Hashim Amla also got to his fourth double ton in 461 balls.

DAY 3 Report : HERE

Hashim Amla hit a double century but it was Temba Bavuma who lit up Cape Town with a maiden Test ton as South Africa batted their way to safety on the fourth day of the second Test against England. Bavuma, became the first black African batsman to play Test cricket for South Africa, struck 16 fours in a superb exhibition of classical batting as South Africa made 627 for seven before declaring two runs short of England total of 629 for six declared.The innings featured three partnerships of more than 150.Bavuma and debutante Chris Morris came together with 167 run stand for sixth wicket.

Morris also brought up his first ever Test half-century in his debut Test. Stuart Broad and James Anderson struck three times with the third new ball in a session to show something for the bowlers as well.
