The Delhi Daredevils were the only franchise who entered the auction without any player being retained from the previous season, which also corresponded to them having all five ‘Right to Match’ cards available for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 auction.
They had a mixed day, during which they made few excellent buys, and few confusing ones. Buying James Neesham for Rs 1 crore seemed a very good deal, and picking up Laxmi Ratan Shukla too seemed an interesting decision. But spending Rs 12.5 crores on Dinesh Karthik seemed a little absurd. They also went gung-ho after Jaydev Unadkat.

Overall, they ended the day with a very aggressive batting line-up, but the spin department needs some reinforcement.
