James Taylor has been adjudged the man of the match for his match-winning innings of 82.

England have beaten India by three wickets to book their place in the final of the tri-series against Australia. England reached their target with 19 balls to spare. India finish their tour of Australia without a single victory. India will now play in the World Cup, with their first match scheduled to be against Pakistan on February 15 at Adelaide. Here’s our match report

James Taylor is finally dismissed, mush to the relief of India. He made 82 and was easily the difference between both sides. Jos Buttler is still there at the crease as they look to get another 10 runs for a win.

Jos Buttler has reached yet another half-century and has built an excellent partnership along with James Taylor. The partnership has gone past 100 and in a run-chase of just 200, it is a massive moment. England have surely sealed this game and will face Australia in the finals of the tri-series, by the looks of it.

England go past the 150-run mark in the 39th over. Jos Buttler and James Taylor have built an excellent partnership and have put England in a commanding position to win the match from here on. India have faltered away the advantage they had at one stage.

James Taylor reaches his fourth ODI half-century. He has played an extremely crucial innings as he looks to stay till the end and see his team home comfortably. India have lost the initiative after picking up five wickets within the first 25 overs of the match.

At the half-way stage England have lost half their side and need another 109 runs to win. This is a crucial match for both sides as the winner will play Australia in the final at the same venue on February 1.

Ravi Bopara heads back to the pavilion after after he hits the ball right into the hands of Ravindra Jadeja. Roger Binny is having an excellent game with the ball as he picks up his third wicket.

Eoin Morgan is out caught by Shikhar Dhawan off the bowling of Stuart Binny. Binny picks up his second wicket and England are in desperate need of a partnership at the moment. India are well on top at this stage.

India have been bowled out for exactly 200 and it is going to be a herculean task to defend such a small total. This is a must-win game for both sides and the winner will face Australia in the tri-series final at Perth. Meanwhile, here’s Nishad Pai Vaidya‘s innings report.


England win the game by three runs with 19 balls to spare. England will now face Australia in the final of the tri-series on February 1 at Perth once again.


Mohammed Shami bowls an excellent over as he sent Jos Buttler back to the pavilion and kept it tight throughout the over. Can India still win it?


Jos Buttler is also out for a well made 67 and he joins James Taylor back in the hut. England are just eight runs away from a win and India need three more wickets.

Mohit Sharma wasn’t looking threatening as England march closer to a win. This partnership between Jos Buttler and James Taylor has surely won them the game and taken the game away from India.


Poor over from Ravindra Jadeja at this stage of this game. He concedes 10 runs that puts England closer to their target. Mohit Sharma continues at the other end. India will miss rue the run-out opportunity early on, which could’ve sent Jos Buttler back to the pavilion for very less runs.


Jos Buttler gets to his fifty at an excellent pace and his partnership with James Taylor has surely won England the match. India can surely cause some panic if they pick up a couple of wickets now.


England go past 150 in the 39th over and this partnership between Jos Buttler and James Taylor has put England in a commanding position and look well on course to win the match.


Just three runs from that over from Mohammed Shami.England just 53 runs away from a win and ending India’s campaign without a win.


England are going at a steady rate and look in no trouble whatsoever as they march towards a victory, Mohammed Shami will continue from the other end.


Excellent over from Mohammed Shami, he concedes just one run from the first over of the powerplay. This partnership is taking the game away from India. India desperately need a couple of wickets soon.


England are going about their run chases very well. Batting powerplay has been taken by England. This might be India’s chance to get back in the game. Mohammed Shami to bowl the first over of the powerplay.


England just 66 runs away from victory in their pursuit of 201. India need a couple of wickets desperately to challenge Australia in the finals of the tri-series on February 1.


James taylor reaches his fourth ODI half- century and an extremely crucial innings from the youngster, who came in at number three after Ian Bell went early. He looks extremely solid and is set to take India to victory.


Jos Buttler and James Taylor have put on 62 runs for the sixth wicket so far and are on course to take their team home without much sweat. India don’t seem like picking up another wicket.


Four runs from that over. India are not looking threatening with their bowling at the moment. England look on course to win the match and take on Australia in the finals

Five runs came off that last over from Akshar Patel. The partnership is extremely threatening and India need to find a way to break it as soon as possible. England need 90 more runs to win.


India still not able to get the breakthrough as James Taylor and his partnership with Jos Buttler reach the 50-run mark. Akshar Patel is now back in the attack.


England go past 100 in the 27th over and are still 100 runs away from victory. India are losing the initiative after they were on top courtesy of some good bowling, especially from Stuart Binny. India still five wickets away from a win.


Mohammed Shami is bowling at good areas, but the England batsmen manage to score four to five runs every over despite some good bowling. This partnership between James Taylor and Jos Buttler is budding very nicely. India have to break it soon.


India give away six runs from that over. They will want to ensure that they don’t leak so many runs while having less runs to defend.


Mohammed Shami returns to the bowling attack and bowls a good over. Just four have come off that over. England need another 115 runs to win the match and make it to the tri-series final.



Ravindra Jadeja concedes five runs from that over. India in pursuit to defend 200 are well on course to get the win at the moment.


Stuart Binny is not able to make any inroads into the England batting. India will hope that they could pick up a couple of wickets in the next few overs. India at an advantage at this stage.


Akshar Patel bowls a good over, only four runs from that over. India can smell victory, which will take them to the finals of the tri-series.


OUT! Ravi Bopara is out of the final ball of the 20th over. He tries to cut a wide ball over point and Ravindra Jadeja grabs on to the simple catch. Stuart Binny gets his third wicket.

Excellent over once again by Akshar Patel but the last ball was put away for a boundary by James Taylor. That will certainly relieve some pressure. Stuart Binny back in the attack once again.


Excellent over by Stuart Binny once again doesn’t give anything away in that over. India are on top at this moment. Skipper Eoin Morgan and James Taylor look to steady the innings to a certain level.

Good Over from Stuart Binny. He concedes just two runs, but he wasn’t threatening enough to pick up wickets. India has to win the match to progress to the finals.


Just two runs have come off Akshar Patel’s first over. India will want him to perform well ahead of the World Cup.Stuart Binny is now back in the attack.


Mohit Sharma is troubling Moeen Ali with short deliveries amidst some great fielding by the fielders. Moeen however manages to get three runs after an uppish drive. Yet another good over by Mohit.


Moeen Ali manages to get a boundary off the bowling of Mohammed Shami. India need to pick up a few quick wickets. Mohit Sharma will continue from the other end.


Mohit Sharma is bowling a good line and length and the England batsmen are not able to put him away. Unfortunately for India the last delivery did not carry through to the slip, which gives England some respite.


Mohammed Shami has kept the pressure on the England batsmen. They are finding it difficult to get runs. Great start for India. Wickets are the need of the hour though.


Mohit Sharma has troubled the England batsman so far and if he continues to do so, he can be a serious threat. Moeen Ali and James Taylor try to resurrect the innings after Ian Bell fell early.


Mohammed Shami bowls an excellent over, India need to pick up wickets at regular intervals to have a chance of winning.


Mohit Sharma is troubling Moeen Ali with the short delivery, but he manages to get to the other end and gives the strike back to Ian Bell. Bell is trapped in front after a promising start.

Ian Bell looks in good touch after he drives Stuart Binny through the covers. Virat Kohli had stopped a certain boundary in the previous ball. Seven runs came off that Stuart Binny.


Excellent start from Mohit Sharma. But India need to pick up a few wickets early on to have any chance of victory. Moeen Ali playes Mohit extremely cautiously as a misfield gets him off the mark. Just a single off Mohit’s first over.


After having a look at a couple of deliveries Ian Bell lobs one over covers to pick up his first boundary of the innings. Otherwise a decent over from Stuart Binny.


That’s it! India are bowled out exactly for 200, which is going to be extremely difficult to defend for India. The last wicket pair put on 35 for just 26 balls that got India to 200.

Mohammed Shami gets some vital runs for his side as India are just a run away from 200. Great stuff from the last pair. England will be frustrated with this.


Mohammed Shami smashes Chris Woakes for a six and then follows it up with a four. Woakes follows it up with a slower delivery, which goes down the leg side. 13 runs have come off that over. Very important runs for India.


Mohit Sharma smashes Stuart Broad for a four and India inch closer to 200. Few more boundaries required.


Doesn’t look like India are going to play their 50 overs out yet again. England have done extremely well after India got off to a good start earlier.


OUT! Another one perishes in pursuit for quick runs. Akshar Patel becomes Steven Finn’s third victim and now it’s just a matter of time before it’s all over.

It’s now up to the tail-enders to save the day for India. India will have to get past at least 200 to enable their bowlers to have something to bowl at.


Ravindra Jadeja is out after he tries to use the long handle. The ball pops up in the air after taking an outside edge and it’s an easy catch for Steven Finn at mid-on. Stuart Broad picks up his second wicket.

MS Dhoni is hit on the head off the very first ball of the over from James Anderson. Dhoni tries to go for a big shot but miscues it just for a single. Dhoni however perishes off the final ball of the over after the ball kept low and it wrapped him on the pads in front of the wickets.

Excellent spell from Moeen Ali. His figures of two for 35 in 10 overs could be the turning point of the match. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja will have to start going gfor the big shots soon.


Ravindra Jadeja survives as the ball drops short of Steven Finn at fine leg. India need some quick runs as Moeen Ali comes on to bowl his final over.


England well on top of India as they look to pick up the remaining four wickets as early as possible. India must try to play out the remaining overs and get as many runs as possible.


OUT! Stuart Binny is out after a brilliant catch by Ian Bell. Steven Finn picks up his second wicket of the match and India are in deep trouble as Ravindra Jadeja comes out to join his skipper MS Dhoni on the field,

MS Dhoni breaks the shackles as he gets back-to-back boundaries off the last two deliveries of Stuart Broad. Another over of batting powerplay yet to be played.


MS Dhoni and Stuart Binny play out Steven Finn cautiously. The duo yet again look to rebuild the innings and take India to a competitive score.


Stuart Binny pounces on a full-toss by Chris Woakes and he times the ball down the ground for a boundary and he gets off the mark in the process. Otherwise a decent over from Woakes.


Ajinkya Rahane is dismissed after he played an excellent innings. It’s a big wicket for England and now to new batsmen will be at the crease.

Broad gets his first wicket of the series after Rayudu is caught behind after he tries to cut a ball close to his body. Skipper MS Dhoni is the new batsman. India have completely lost the plot but Ajinkya Rahane is playing well at the other end.

Excellent over by Moeen Ali as he concedes just three runs from the over. India will not want to give the part-time spinner another wicket.



After two quiet balls, Ambati Rayudu hits the ball past Stuart Broad to pick up his first boundary of the innings and follows it up with a single. Ajinkya Rahane then pulls Stuart Broad for a six off the final ball of the over.


Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu play out Moeen Ali extremely cautiously and pick up four runs in the process. The duo need to stabilise the innings after losing two quick wickets.


Ajinkya Rahane welcomes Stuart Broad back into the attack with a boundary. Ambati Rayudu, looks to settle down at the other end. Rahane will be key for India in the remaining part of the innings.


India lose Suresh Raina and there there were a couple of mix-ups between new batsman Ambati Rayudu and Ajinkya Rahane. England are right back into this game as India lose momentum after a great start.


OUT! Suresh Raina is caught at point as he tries to go for a big shot off the bowling of Moeen Ali. His catch is safely pouched by Woakes as Ambati Rayudu walks in. Ajinkya Rahane is batting well at the other end.

Ajinkya Rahane looks itchy to get a big shot but he is unable to do so. Suresh Raina has a auiet word with him and Rahane gets a single off the last ball.


India lose the wicket of Virat Kohli and now have to rebuild the innings once again with Suresh Raina joining Ajinkya Rahane on the field. Rahane has to go on and get a big score to ensure that India finish with a big score.


OUT! Virat Kohli looks to hit Moeen Ali out of the park but he is caught a long off by Joe Root for just eight. Suresh Raina is the next batsman for India.

Ajinkya Rahane looks to get into the next gear as he tries to pull Steven Finn out of the ground unsuccessfully. He plays the rest of the over extremely cautiously as three runs have come from that over.


India reach the 100-run mark in the 26th over after Moeen Ali concedes five singles from his over. This is the best start India have had in the tri-series so far and it comes just at the right time.


Ajinkya Rahane gets to his eighth ODI fifty as India look to rebuild after Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed shortly for 38. Rahane is supported by Virat Kohli at the other end.


Moeen Ali keeps it quiet as he concedes just two runs from the 24th over. Virat Kohli looks to get his eye in after Shikhar Dhawan’s dismissal for 38.


Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli look to rebuild the innings after a good start courtesy of 83-run stand for the opening wicket. India have a long batting line-up and a big score looks to be on the cards.


Virat Kohli gets off the mark with a single and India manage to score just three runs from that Moeen Ali’s over. Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane will look to build on the good start given to them by their openers.


Fantastic bowling from Chris Woakes as he bowls a wicket-maiden. Virat Kohli plays out the remaining deliveries without scoring a single run. Moeen Ali will continue from the other end.


After playing extremely well, Shikhar Dhawan is caught behind off the bowling of Chris Woakes. Woakes strikes off the very first ball of his second spell. Still, great job by the openers.

Ajinkya Rahane getss a luck edge off the bowling of Moeen Ali and gets his second boundary of the innings. India will now look to consolidate after a great start.


Single off every ball from that over from Steven Finn. Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane look to get a move on after an excellent start. Run-rate at the moment is just under four, but plenty of overs to improve on it.


England introduce spin for the first time as Moeen Ali comes on to bowl. Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan play him out cautiously and manage to get just two runs from that over.


Ajinkya Rahane and shikhar Dhawan look to play Steven Finn safely and don’t want to give any wickets to him.


Good over from Stuart Broad, just four runs from that over. Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane are looking in great form as they look to consolidate on the good start.


Shikhar Dhawan is looking in good form as a crashes the ball to the cover boundary. England will want to end this budding partnership at the earliest.



India bring up their 50 after Ajinkya Rahane plays an uppish drive through covers. This is the first 50 opening partnership for India in the tri-series. Shikhar Dhawan hits the last ball of the over for a boundary. Great stuff!


Star from the previous encounter, Steven Finn is now into the attach, he replaces James Anderson, who bowled six overs in his opening spell. Good start for India so far as they have not lost a wicket so far as they near 50.


Shikhar Dhawan is lucky to be out there as he inside edges a Stuart Broad delivery and the ball misses his leg-stump. He collects his second boundary in the process. Eight runs coming off that over from Broad.


Just a couple of runs from that over from James Anderson. Anderson has bowled extremely well so far and the Indian openers are finding it difficult to put him away.


Ajinkya Rahane dispatches a lose ball from Stuart Broad and gets his first boundary of the innings in the process, otherwise a good over from Broad. India have made a steady start after the first powerplay.


Ajinkya Rahane goes over the top on a couple of occasions but is unable to find the middle of the bat. Five runs have come from that James Anderson over.


India still trying to get deliveries away courtesy of some great bowling from England. Chris Woakes giving nothing away in that over.


Just one run from that over from James Anderson. Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan look to get their eye in before going for expansive shots. Good to see.



James Anderson bowls a maiden and Shikhar Dhawan is finding it hard to survive. The good news is that he’s still there at the crease.


England bowlers are keeping things tight, not giving the batsmen anything. Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane trying their best to survive this early period.


India off to a slow but cautious start. England Bowlers have been at the top of their game so far.


Shikhar Dhawan in his pursuit to get off the mark almost gets run-out, but he survives. He eventually gets off the mark in the next ball as Chris Woakes concedes just two runs from the second over.


India make a cautious start as James Anderson bowls a fantastic first over. Shikhar Dhawan just managed to get one run off the over.

In this ongoing tri-series, the under-achievers England have managed to put in some impressive performances. Led by Ian Bell, Moeen Ali, and Joe Root, England have shown a much waited fighting spirit. They beat India with a bonus point and came close to beat Australia at Hobart.
