Emirates Cricket Board and Maxtalent Global Sports, who came up with a development programme recently to promote women’s cricket in United Arab Emirates (UAE) has received good response from young girls and women who want to pursue the sport. This is the inference drawn out by Sudhakar Shetty, Head coach of Maxtalent Global Sports. Shetty was quoted by Gulf News saying, “We have always tried to promote women’s cricket. For the last nine consecutive years we engaged in developing cricket at the grassroot level through Vision Cup inter-schools girls tournaments. “This women’s development programme was hugely rewarding as the response from the girls and even parents was very rewarding. We made sure that the programme had some fun elements while teaching the basic nuances of the game to make the game attractive. Meanwhile, Emirates Cricket Board’s National Cricket Development manager Andy Russell, said after a match organised by ICC Academy which was part of its Day Cricket Festival, “There is no doubt that with girls cricket being received so well it will only develop and grow from here. We will continue to encourage and motivate girls with such programmes making it still more interesting to ensure the girls participate regularly.” In the game girls from 14 schools took part with Winchester Girls beating English Girls High School Sharjah.
Talking of the development programme, around 215 girls from 14 schools from cites like Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman participated and were coached by Maxtalent Global Sports’ trainers. Qatar Cricket Association: GCC T20 women’s tournament underway
