Following their famous win in the third Test against Australia in Ashes two weeks ago, the England players received a customized title from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The company commemorated the England cricket team for their World Cup 2019 win with a World heavyweight championship belted fitted with England Cricket Board (ECB) logo on the side plates.

The World heavyweight champion title features a crown and three Lions on either side. Elated on receiving the title, England players posed with it with Jofra Archer, the hero of the final, wearing the title around his waist.

England had defeated New Zealand in a nerve-wracking final. The match ended in a tie as Ben Stokes struck 15 runs in the final over to push the match into super over.

For the first time in the history of ODI cricket, a super over was conducted to adjudge the winner. To add to the drama, it also ended in a tie as both the teams scored 15 runs off six balls. England won their maiden World Cup title on the basis of boundary count.

Ben Stokes was controversially awarded six runs in the final over after a throw from Martin Guptill deflected off his bat and raced to the boundary. England were erroneously awarded six runs instead of five. The matter will be reviewed this month.

While England cricket team received the title for their World Cup win, IPL franchise Mumbai Indians was also gifted a customized title by WWE in 2017 after they won the tournament. MI had defeated Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in the final that year.

Triple H, WWE’s COO, had promised a title for the then three-time IPL champions. Incidentally, IPL 2017 final also had a nerve-wracking ending.

RPS needed 4 runs to win on the final ball. Daniel Christian could just manage two runs and MI clinched their third title under Rohit Sharma. Two years later, they defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final to win IPL 2019.
