Alive in the series following their win in the third ODI in Ranchi on Friday, Australia received a big blow after Marcus Stoinis was ruled out of the fourth ODI in Mohali on Sunday.

Stoinis had recently won Australia’s men’s ODI player of the year. The 29-year-old had brought Australia closer to a victory in Nagpur with his 52-run knock. However, Vijay Shankar’s 2-wicket final over denied Australia a chance to register a win and helped India win the Nagpur ODI by eight runs. (ALSO READ: Feeling empty after Nagpur defeat: Marcus Stoinis)

Stonis scored 31 in the third ODI to push Australia’s total past 300 after Aaron Finch-Usman Khawaja’s 193-run stand for the opening wicket.

In the fourth ODI, Kohli won the toss and opted to bat. While Australia made two changes to the team that played in Ranchi, India made four changes to the playing XI as KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal replaced Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI. (ALSO READ: 4th ODI: Rishabh Pant eyes World Cup spot as India ponder changes)
