Mumbai were handed an embarrassing nine-wicket defeat by Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2019 Super League Group B stage at Indore on Friday.

Opting to bat, Mumbai suffered a major batting collapse and were restricted to a paltry 97/9 in 20 overs. Prithvi Shaw had a disappointing evening after he was dismissed by Vinay Kumar for nought. Siddhesh Lad and Suryakumar Yadav added 13 and 14 runs respectively. Captain Shreyas Iyer’s stay at the crease didn’t last long after he could manage to add just 10 off 12. The domestic giants found themselves with half their side back in the hut following the dismissal of former captain Aditya Tare, who was bowled for a duck by Manoj Bhandage.

In a shoddy batting performance that saw five players with single-digit scores, Akash Parker top scored with 22 off 31. (ALSO READ: Vidarbha outplay Delhi to seal 9-wicket win)

In reply, Karnataka cruised to victory in just 13.2 overs. Openers Rohan Kadam and BR Sharath stitched 79 runs before the latter fell to Lad for 25. Kadam, who remained unbeaten on 62 off 45, his innings laced with eight boundaries and a solitary six, found support from Mayank Agarwal (7 off 4 not out) as they helped their side to the finish line.

Brief scores: Karnataka 98/1 in 13.2 overs (Rohan Kadam 62*) beat Mumbai 97/9 (Akash Parker 22; Manoj Bhandage 2/11, Vinay Kumar 2/15) by nine wickets
